Yes, 'gave you away' means 'showed something about you that was a secret'.

Some members here on MyEC keep copying other's writing from the Internet instead of writing their own. They might have wanted to share what they thought was worth sharing, or they might have tried to fool us into believing the blog was written by themselves.

But we're not allowed to do that -  not to copy a piece of writing from the Internet without the permission from the author. Don't plagiarize

Flowery idioms

Idioms are the colorful aspect of any language. Using them as a non-native speaker, makes your speech less awkward. But remember, never translate them word-for-word (literally) into your native language. Do that and you'll get all topsy-turvy! Now, now, don't panic! Using them is quite delightful if you get the hang of it. It'll be fun and you'll enjoy speaking English much more.

Accents and famous characters

I know, I know. Another blog about accents. I searched MyEC and found 52 (or was it 58?) pages related to the keyword 'accent'. Honestly, I did not check them out. Why? I have my reasons, so don't ask! Here are a bunch of different types of accents that fictional characters could be recognized by them:

Slur: an act of speaking indistinctly so that sounds or words run into one another or a tendency to speak in such a way, esp. when someone is tired or drunk

The sky's the limit

Yes, it's an idiom, which means 'there is no limit to something'.

You can use the idiom to say there is no limit to someone's success or achievement, for example, you can say 'The sky's the limit for anyone who really wants to excel at English'.

The idiom can be so useful - it depends on how well you get it. You can also use it to say you can write whatever you want or talk about anything you like.

However, that's not what I'm trying to say. What I mean is how much hard work we need to master En

We Wish You A Merry...

To all members of MyEC and those who'll join us later:

Recently, I bumped into a status that really hurt my feelings. I don't intend to cause a ruckus and quote the exact words. Seriously, what would be the point? It was a pet peeve about the comments some friends, accent on friends, leave on each other's walls.

Personally, I'm glad that this particular English club is not a 'dating site'. The Terms and Conditions section has made it crystal clear for anyone who thinks otherwise. And it should, na

Treatment:

Treatment:

So far life is there no disease can do any harm (except pain), when life is over, no science of doctors of the entire world can do any thing to bring even a single breath more than the last one exhaled.

But we have been advised besides having faith for good, must try to use every possible treatment to save a life up to the last……..using medicine and any available instrumental treatment. It is also like “pray”. It is hope and faith of having some miraculous results in the form of heavenl

Which one is doing it right?

Lions pretend that they are hurt by their cubs' bites in order to encourage them:

Papa Lion: I'm done! I'm dead! So dark, so cold.... Ahhh!

Junior: Dad, for the love of Pete. Jeez...

Papa Lion: Don't forget who you are, Son. FINISH ME!!!

Punctuation Personalities... huh? :/

2347222218?profile=original

Yes! You don't know it yet, but your personality is like a punctuation symbol!
(oh wait... yes, you probably know it now, since you've seen the graphic above already)

So... tell me!! Don't keep quiet! The world and EC need to know:
Which punctuation fits with your personality??

Mine is not really in that graphic, because it's something like this:

:3   <--- I like to introduce groups of people + I've a charming and cute cat personality :D

Darn it! I give up!

Have you ever tried to 'teach' someone how to create an account, say in facebook, twitter, instagram,... but they are a little behind when it comes to social media? I'm gonna come right out and say it, sometimes they have the ability to make you look for the sweet angel of death and ask him to take you now. And believe me that is quite a power!Don't get me wrong I'm glad that they want to make new friends, share their ideas with the world or whatever. Good for them, but seriously dude, let me fi

Yes, Josef Essberger, the founder of both EC and MyEC,  just liked my blog post. That really made my day! What an honour - I do appreciate it!

I still remember it was Josef who invited me to MyEC -  I used to be active in the forums of EC.  Now, I've been so actively involved in MyEC, and really enjoyed being the blog mod(moderator). I'd also like to thank Tara, the former admin of MyEC, who thought I was such a keen learner of English, and recommended me for the blog mod.

My English wouldn't hav

COMPLAINT

Once I lodged a complaint in a hospital where my brother was not attended properly when he was sick and needed emergency treatment. I was reading this letter on my computer then the following idea came into my mind. This is only for the reading interests of my readers.

COMPLAINT AGAINST A BELOVED:

I would have to lodge a complaint to the Cupid as well as bring to the notice of all lovers about her STONE HEARTED ATTITUDE. Following are the facts:

1. Last night I rushed to my beloved with a problem h

It's not cute, guys.

Deciding to start a family is a big step for any married couple. The moment that bundle of joy is born, mommy and daddy need to put a lot of things into perspective. One of them is choosing the right career for their sweet little angel. To them, the world is in dire need of another Tesla or Einstein or Sagan or..., and who is better than their prodigy who hasn't been discovered yet. So the endless list begins: Scientist, astronaut, inventor, surgeon, etc.

But what about the baby? What if it's des

How HE Turns Tables On...........

How ‘HE’  ‘turns tables’ on……:

Once a very rich but arrogant man was having lunch with his beautiful and gentle wife.  They heard the voice of a beggar at the door who was begging to give him the food.  The wife asked the permission from her husband whether she could give the meal to the beggar.  The husband very unwillingly allowed her.  When she came back after giving the meal to the beggar she found her husband not in good mood.  He was murmuring and cursing the beggar who disturbed him during

Paddle Up!

2347218857?profile=original

My 2016 kickstarted with an adventure that I tried with my loved ones. It's the stand up paddle boarding. This is one of the fastest growing water sport activities in the world. Technically, this is done by standing up on the board while using the paddle to propel through the water. Sounds easy, right? Actually, it's quite challenging.

Since I love the beach so much, it wouldn't be interesting without trying any sport that could be something memorable. We're all newbie paddle boarders, but the in
