To Chat or not to chat, that is the question

The chat room here is as good or as bad as you allow it to be.  Not every person who comes here to My EC comes with a good intention.  Not every person is a "good" person.  There are some who come to prey on others.  They enjoy abusing others or they are looking to take advantage or prey on others.  It is up to each person here whether this is allowed or not.  If you permit it, you become part of the problem because you are encouraging it.  Every time

Writing - Basics

Each Paragraph should begin with a topic sentence.  It is a general statement that tells the reader what this paragraph is about and what the controlling idea is.  Everything in the paragraph should relate to that idea.  “If a sentence or idea in a paragraph does not relate to the main idea, the paragraph lacks unity.”  You want the idea to be general yet specific enough that you can talk about one subject or aspect.  If it is too general, your paragraph will be too long and cumb

My First Diving Experience

What is the better way to uncover the other seventy-one percent of the Earth’s surface might look like? “Self-contained underwater breathing apparatus,” also knowned as SCUBA, makes it possible to explore God’s mysterious and majestic creation. It is an astonishing and fascinating underwater sport where you are able to witness many plants, corals and beautiful aquatic creatures. Visit shipwrecks or just to experience the zero gravity underwater.

Regardless, when asked whether I would like to take

Online and text abbreviations have their place in our modern era, and in the right situation (a chat room or text message) they are relatively acceptable. However (I am going to be quite unpopular for saying this) I don't think it is wise for English learners to use many of these 'lazy words'.Acronyms like LOL (laugh out loud) and BRB (be right back) are okay, as long as everyone is aware that they have no place outside a chat room or a text message, and they certainly don't belong in formal writ

Ohh,the crazy place!

Oh,the chatroom world,

that we enter day after day,
fingers on the keyboard,

Trying to express what we want to say,

oh,the fun that we can have,

And a little bit of headache as well,

Lovers or just friends,

What will happen,we never can tell,

Oh,the friends we've made,

and a few enemies we've made too,

so much time we've spent,

Have we got nothing else to do?

Oh,the good people,

or the crazy ones we've never met,

do we have conscience,

when many words we should regret ,

oh, the crazy words,of some people in th

Writing Challenge : Finish My sentence

This blog is written based on Tara Benwell "unfinished sentence" challenge http://my.englishclub.com/profiles/blogs/finish-my-story

Suddenly at 3:00 am, as suddenly as she started, the crying stopped. We looked at each other. Relief was clearly written on our faces. Gently I put the baby back on her sleeping cot. She looked so peaceful. We took a few more minutes and just trying to savour the moment.2346535365?profile=original

After a while, we tip toed from her cot. I decided to leave the sleeping lamp on and left the door

“Morning, dear Mickey!”

Half opened my eyes, I said it to myself, and dressed myself at the same time. Then I went to brush my teeth, wash my face and comb my hairs casually. [because it is Saturday and no school] Having all these trivial things done, I felt quite hungry, so I came into the kitchen to cook my lovely breakfast.

Oh~ After a sleep, I still felt so tired. Without any thinking, I put some rice to the electric cooker, a cup of milk into the microwave, and plugged in the electric kettle

Letting go...

2346533403?profile=original

One of the hardest things to do is letting go…. memories, experiences and most of all people….people who became part of your life….

What I’ve learned from my experiences is not to get too attached to people. Because they will leave eventually… whatever reason they have, there will come a time that they will have to go. and you can’t do anything about it. So I tend to put up walls and don’t give too much affection to people around me… especially those who I called ‘virtual friends’.

You may have learned English for a very long time, but chances are you'll still find yourself having problems choosing a proper or suitable word to use. That can be a big problem for learners.

Both in conversation and in writing, learners often hesitate when they are trying to choose or use a proper word for a situation. They may find there are a lot of words with the similar meaning, and they have to choose only one from them to express themselves in the context. They may find it difficult to di

Forgive me if this blog seems too long. (Well I know it is a bit long, I can't help it).

In the loving memory of Kiwi_John, the late ESL Admin. To all previous ESL Admins; Cobra, Teabag and Chuck and to all my former chatter friends in ESL Room (now known as 1997 Chat Room); Snjura, Shrek, Tito, Shu_Man, Maria_fer, Bajo, Tiffita, Lolly, Aurora, Little Ngoh, Tristan, Maru and the rest (forgive me for I am unable to remember all your nicks).

People always asked me how do I came to know about this si

Tip For Tagging

I want to share a quick tip about tagging! A tag is a keyword. You can add tags to the blogs, photos, and videos you post on MyEC. This makes it easier for members to search for specific content. It also helps English learners learn new words! Use a space after each tag.

If you want to use a phrase or expression with more than one word in your tag, you have to add quotation marks around the words. For example: "Why did the pope quit?". If you don't use quotations, the tag will look like this whe

My My English Club

Hello My EC..

I am an old member who keeps coming back to my second home no matter how long I was away.. Or a proditor in other words as Deuce has called us.

Being here again with so many friends missing or hibernating; stirred a feeling of nostalgia that made me decide to write this blog. Which reflects how I see My EC, what benefits I gained "still gaining" from it as well as sharing the sweet memories I had with my friends here..

I have joined in October 2010 at first I was lost like every new m

You Never Know

As you know, billions of Asians are celebrating the Lunar New Year (Some people call it "Chinese New Year" or "Spring Festival" in China). People in Korea or Vietnam or some other countries may celebrate it in different ways.  But, one thing's for sure, they all wish themselves or others a happy and lucky new year.

I myself sent a lot of text messages on the New Year's Eve to wish all of them every happiness, a fortune, prosperity, success, health, a dream come true or something

Self Introduction

This topic seems easy but I am always speechless whenever people ask me to tell about myself. Too much information came rushing into my mind at once. I am not sure what exactly they want to know or which information should I tell them first. Thanks to Tara Benwell for outlining some ideas on this topic. To start practicing my writing, I wish to write at least 300 hundreds word a day. So, let’s give it a go.

When I was born my eldest sister named me Asnida Darwis after a famous female singer durin

Chinese Spring Festival is coming.

Chinese Spring Festival is the biggest festival in a year in China. This year, the festival begin at Feb 9th.(two days left.)

According to the wikipedia, the "Year" pronounced as "Nian" in Chinese Pinyin, was a monster in ancient times in China. The monster appeared and broke into villages to hurt people at the end of a year. In the beginning, people didn't know how to prevent YEAR from entering, and then, at another end of a year, when Year appeared again, a burned bamboo (cracker) just blew up

Writing Challenge: Reflexive Pronouns

I would like to devote this blog to smoking. In fact, not to smoking by itself but giving up smoking. I'm a smoker myself and want to quit smoking. Frankly speaking, I've smoked for a long time (about eight or nine years) and have done many attempts to give up this bad habit. As you could guess yourself, all of them were failed. There were times when I haven't smoked for a half year or even more but I've always come across some circumstances when I couldn't help but take a cigarette and light it
