Rin Tin Tin - My English Hero

A little note from me. Someone pointed out to me that it was not supposed to be Rin Tin Tin - for the comic. It was supposed to be called Tin Tin. Forgive me if I gave the wrong impression. I was talking about the Belgian Comic Book. Some people may call it Tin Tin. But for me, it was always Rin Tin Tin. Anyway, whether it was Tin Tin or Rin Tin Tin, I will be forever grateful for my English Hero.

I love reading. As far as I could remember, I would always have a book, magazine or even a comic in

My Short Story - How I Wish

"This short story is dedicated to Tara Benwell who showed me that I can write something totally alien to me. To Mickey for always come up with many interesting stories. To my dearest friends, Grape and Eric who first motivated me to write. To all my EC friends, thank you for the friendship."

"Knock, knock". Just looking at that simple words, suddenly my dreadful day seems to be of the past.

"Where have you been?" I asked.

"I haven't seen you in a few days."

"Are you okay?" I know I was bombarding h

Hello family,

Well, today is the first day of China's New Year, the Year of the Snake. We have been celebrating on and off since Monday the 4th, and have been having a great time.

I was invited several times this week to have lunch or dinner with Headmaster and his family. On Friday I went to dinner. Some traditional foods were served. Always there is fish, pork, beef and chicken and a variety of veggie dishes and of course it would not be a meal without the dumplings. Headmaster doesn't

It's A Small World.

2346573930?profile=originalThe more I travel the more I realize just how small this world really is. I have lived in many countries in my lifetime. (And yes, I am old, but don't ask.) Each new place is as amazing as the last. Every country has wonderous places to visit. Each country has beautiful and interesting places to explore.

But more importantly than the places are the people. We see and hear so many bad things happening in the news. I wonder, who the people in these countries really are. Do they have the same hopes

2346574175?profile=originalMy older brother built a stage in our basement for my kids last week! We painted the wall behind the stage with chalkboard paint. This way, the kids and their friends can draw whatever scene or message they want for their plays and performances.

The chalkboard paint has a special warning on it:

Wait three days before drawing on chalkboard surface.

You can imagine how hard it is for my kids to wait! They are eager to draw their first scene and perform their first show. In the meantime, I can't hel

Hello my friends.

We had a new grammar yesterday. It was about use of "nothing, nobody, anybody, anywhere, ..." . We made lots of sentences. I should write about a festival with this grammar. Do you have any offer for an exciting festival? :D

Practising English Online

I wrote this blog based on Tara's Practising English Online Challenge. I've added some information and made some amendments from my original blog.

Years ago, I stumbled upon EC when I was looking for an English Chat Room to alleviate my boredom. I met many good friends, but at that time, not many English Teachers or native English Speakers joined the Chat Room. When I re-entered EC somewhere in October last year, EC had changed. I found out many English Teachers and also native English Speakers w

Practising English Online

This blog is motivated by Tara Benwell's writing challenge. To be honest, I like writing challenges because you can see different sparkling ideas from different bloggers, and that's really a cool thing!

Hello, everyone! I am Mickey! I joined MyEC during my last summer holiday. It was in July if my memory serves me well. I am writing this blog to share with you my adventures of practising English on MyEC.
You may want to ask why I joined MyEC. That's a question, and I have thought about it every o

I just returned from an excellent TESOL convention in Dallas, Texas. The annual convention provides professional development for English language teachers from all over the world. I always enjoy listening to the ideas of teachers, administrators, publishers, and writers. Like every year, I always come home feeling inspired.

This year, I attended an excellent session on materials writing. In the English language teaching (ELT) industry, a materials writer is someone who writes materials (tests, l

TESOL Arabia or Driving to Dubai

My wife and I decided that we would attend the TESOL Arabia meetings last month.  It was over 6,000 km of driving and two weeks of our hard earned vacation, but we also got to see Dubai and Oman for the first time.

2346555551?profile=originalArriving in Dubai we had an impressive view (in the dark) of this very modern and very clean city. I took this photo two days later.

We missed the first day of TESOL because the people responsible for getting our exit visas took five days getting our papers so we could leave Saudi Arabi

My Criminal Mind

While I was in the main chat room yesterday, a fellow EC member asked me to bring up a topic. I told him in jest: “Okay, how about my criminal mind?” He replied with another question: “Why do people kill…commit murder?” In answer, I typed the words “greed”, “power”, “lust”. His next question shocked me. “Will you have the heart to do it?” Whoa! I almost fell off the chair. I was about to answer again when all of a sudden other members entered the chat room and then all I could see were “hi”, “he

2346563443?profile=originalMy favorite punctuation is a question mark. It's love at first sight, the first time I learnt the punctuations, I fell in love with it. As for the reasons, I can blurt out at least 3.

2346563347?profile=originalFirst, it is the cutest punctuation! Dont you think it looks like a part of our body? Yes, it is like our ear! Looking at your eye, nose and your mouth in the mirror, they also form a ? shape.

2346563514?profile=originalSecond, it is one of the most common used punctuations. It's like a hook, intriguing your curiosity and make you think.

Farewell, my dear ♥!

That day we met each other for the first time. You were talkative, and I was silent. You asked me if I was ok, and I was curious why you were so brave. In the evening we had our first dinner on our campus together, and we first took a walk.  I remembered you made me blush by asking if I had a boyfriend. And I don't know where my courage came from that I joked back by telling you I had many, actually none.

The second day when I borrowed a poem book from the library, you teased me I was a bookish g

The SAD Story

Did you know that our exposure to light can have an effect on our mood?  Sometimes this can be strong enough to make people depressed and tired all of the time. When a person is more strongly affected and feels depressed (especially in the Winter) they might have SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder).

Now that the days are beginning to get longer in the Northern Hemisphere, many people with SAD may notice an improvement in their moods.  This is even more likely the further North you live.
