You may have learned English for years or ages or even decades, and already learned all the basic grammar rules, but when you're trying to write something in English, you'll find it more difficult than you may have thought. You can understand or even enjoy what other people wrote, but you find it so hard to write something yourself - even when you did manage to write a blog or comment, you may have failed to properly express yourself, or other members can't understand what you were trying to say

This is my second attempt in writing a blog based on Expector's Writing Challenge. I was not too happy with my previous blog; A Weathered Old Lady which I think I didn't answer the challenge properly.

The bespectacled, studious, reed-thin young man was so absorbed in his writing that he seemed totally oblivious to the fact that the balmy weather was turning into one big, vicious thunderstorm. He has been writing non stop since that day. It was like his very existence depended on him finishing the

Maybe you have already heard that Japanese people are hardworking, Germans are punctual, Englishmen are reserved. Can we apply something like this on the whole nation? As we know every nation is created by the people and their characteristic features, customs, habits, atmosphere in the society, historical development etc., in fact all these aspects from my point of view form typical national character. Since everyone of us belongs to some nation, it is obvious that sometimes we might be not awar

Yesterday I took part in an awesome, traditional event, which is related to Christmas. It was the first of four Sundays of Advent and it means we should have lit the first candle on the traditional Christmas wreaths. For better imagination have a look here:

Anyway back to an unforgottable, magical experience. A huge, coniferous tree was standing in the middle of the crowded square and was planned to be lit up exactly at 4:30pm. Yes, so early! However, here it is already dark at this time so I kno

Hello pretty girl,

Let me ask you first, how are you in such a lovely winter morning? I think, you are passing a very busy time with your study. But, why you are not writing me, are your days  hectic? Here, I am also too busy, of course, with my usual duty. Anyway, do you want to hear how did I pass the last two months?

Then listen, I went to a rocky mountain area with my close friends in last month. In a sunny-Autumn morning we started our journey. We didn't book any cottage or hotel but we were

I used to watch the white haired old lady sitting on her rustic rocking chair with a vacant look on her face. Her weathered and wrinkled face looked so sad. Sometimes I noticed her gnarled hand would tremble ever so slightly. Other times, I noticed that she would grip the rocking chair as if her life depended on it. Once in a blue moon, she would break into a little smile. Her little chuckles were so rare, as rare as hen's teeth.

I wondered what her story was. I bet she had endured so much in he

Are you ready for one more writing challenge? I hope so.

You could always add one or more adjectives before or after every noun to enrich the sentence. You usually do so for a colourful sentence or a vivid description.  Let's compare these two sentences:

-- A man in the village was sitting in a chair.

-- A white-haired old man in the peaceful village was sitting in a black wooden chair.

It can be so challenging to make such a sentence. Here are some tips for you:

1. You need to find the proper adjec

what should we do? (part-3)

Today, I am going to share one of my experiences with you. Then I just completed my S.S.C examination. That day one of cousins came to our place so my brother and I had a great day. After passing a busy and joyful day I felt tired. So, I said goodnight a bit early and went to my room to set up the mosquito net. But, when I was tucking the net, suddenly a flying insect (looked like a grasshopper but small in size and color was light ash-black) caught my eye-sight. And, without thinking, I Hold it

Why Do We Have To Speak English?

Why Do We Have To Speak English?

by: Princess Monera Lumina Bacarat Indol

My father once told us a story that was also narrated to him by his paternal grandfather relative to why many individuals in southern Philippines are conversant to the English language, particularly those who were in their pre-school years when the Americans formally colonized the country.

In the island of Mindanao, Southern Philippines, historically, we were made to believe that speaking the English language would do us bet

Here is my (very short) story for Luci's (very) Short Story Challenge. I'm afraid it is a tiny bit longer than 70 words. Tough challenge!

The Blogger that Saved the Day

It was nearing the end of November when I realized I hadn’t posted a Writing Challenge on MyEC. I grabbed my journal, and started jotting down ideas. Suddenly, the lights went out. An alien appeared in front of me and made just one demand.

“Give me your journal.”

I tried to grab a knife, but it was too late. The alien was already wr

Sandakan - The Gateway To Nature

Some time in the middle of October this year, I had to travel to Sandakan, Sabah for a business meeting. This was my second visit to Sandakan, but when I visited it the first time, I never had the chance to see the town due to hectic meeting schedule. But this time, I had the chance to stay overnight over there.

First, let me tell you a little bit about Sandakan. Sandakan is the second largest city in Sabah. It's at the north-east coast of Borneo. It's better known to be the gateway for the famou

Thanks a lot Luci for such amazing challenge. :D

Once upon a time there was an Island of aliens where toilet paper was the only abundantly grown plant found. Houses were like a broken egg with green lighting inside them and the shell of the eggs were brown. The aliens saw a flying bicycle on the sky and took shelter in their green lighted broken eggs, because they were afraid of humans. Soon the flying bicycle landed on the Island and a human stepped down from it, holding a big empty bag and star

When I read Luci's challenge, I wonder, who on Earth can come up with some sort rational story line with all those words. LOL. Then it struck me, there's no need to be rational. I can come up with totally rambling short story and blame it all to an alien and say that it's my 'artistic creative' idea. :)

~~~~~~ The Story ~~~~~~
Since landed on this Alien Island, Luci found out that life was not so hard after all. Ohh! She won't call it a bed of roses either, but except for some bigger than elephan
Hello guys,
I was thinking about some "Challenge" and would like to test your creativity. It isn't big deal at all, just write a story - only 50-70 words BUT use these words:
DESTROY, TORTURE, TOILET PAPER, LIGHT, KNIFE, ALIEN, ISLAND
Just write a blog and give it title: Short Story Challenge: + add your title
All above mentioned words should be in the story so these who would like to give it title TOILET PAPER ISLAND can forget about it :-)
!!! I am looking forward to read funny stories from you !!!
Writing Prompt ~ -ible or -able?
It was an unforgettable morning full of excitement and expectations. Finally we made it, we will spend incredible holiday as a family together. Since there isn't lately anything impossible we decided to fly to the Moon. Our friends enjoyed unbelievable honeymoon two years ago in 2089 there and their experiences fascinated me so much that the Moon became my dream destination. We packed stuff and we were ready, our journey people 20 years ago considered something unrealizable, got started. Writing propmt: ible or able
Literally, I spent a terrible night yesterday. Whole night I couldn't sleep a wink. Actually I went shopping in the evening. But, it was a horrible experience by all means. Which dress I chose first was unaffordable. Then I went for another, I did bargain but the salesman made it nonnegotiable! After being failure, I went to dine in a fine restaurant with my family. There were plenty of edible food items but due to some unavoidable circumstances, I couldn't enjoy it. Specially my kid didn't feel
Did You Know - Curiosity Syndrome
Did you know there are many syndromes or terms that are based on people and sometimes unfortunate circumstances that befell those people? We may be familiar with terms such as Stockholm Syndrome, and its opposite the Lima Syndrome. Whereas, one of the most famous syndromes that I read is the Pavlov's Dog Syndrome.
Anyway, in this blog, I want to share some terms and syndromes that derived from certain circumstances or people, and the story behind the name.
Correct me in public
Hi Everyone,
Just as you can see, I'll try to make some corrections for anyone who really wants to be corrected, or whenever I see the "correction tag", which means you don't mind others correcting you in public/openly.
English is such a tricky language, so it's inevitable for you (a learner of English) to make some mistakes in your writing. In fact, we all make mistakes - even a native English teacher. But we learn from our mistakes.
The problem is that we may have failed to spot the mistakes in o
