You may have learned English for years or ages or even decades, and already learned all the basic grammar rules, but when you're trying to write something in English, you'll find it more difficult than you may have thought. You can understand or even enjoy what other people wrote, but you find it so hard to write something yourself - even when you did manage to write a blog or comment, you may have failed to properly express yourself, or other members can't understand what you were trying to say. If that is the case, you need more writing practice. Now, let's answer the following question:

Do we really need so many writing challenges?

Every month, our admin Tara will post a writing challenge for us to practice writing. Other advanced members may try to post a similar writing challenge, too.

Sometimes you may run out of topics or aren't sure of what to write,  or when you're trying to find something to write, then you may find the writing challenge is just what you need.

When you're taking part in the writing challenge, other members will try to correct the mistakes you made in your "challenge blog". Keep in mind that they will correct you in public - other members who read the corrections will benefit from them too. When you're not so sure about the corrections, you can always try to ask a native English teacher such as Tara, Mr. Bob, or you could ask Alan at EC's "Grammar Help" forum. I suggest you take up Tara's monthly writing challenge - you'll agree that it's worth it.

Only when you start to write in English can you realize you need more writing practice.

    Thanks for the comment. That will be so great if this blog really inspires them to write more.

  • wow...great writing. I think it will promote someone to write more who is afraid to writing blog or comments as like mine.

  • Thanks a lot.

  • @afro

    You could consult a grammar book or google "inverted sentence" on the Internet. Here's a link you might find useful.

  • Thanks a lot for your answers.Would you mind if I ask you to give me  the link  of these  grammar rules or you may say where I can get.

  • @afro

    Good question about "inversion" or "inverted sentences". Inversion is used when adverbial expressions "only..." or "...no..." come at the beginning of sentences or when a negative or restrictive expression (hardly, never, seldom, etc) is put at the beginning of a sentence.

    --Never have I been to Australia.

    --Not until last year did I finish the grammar book.

    By the way, "benefit" is alos a verb, so you can say "someone benefits from something".

  • Only when you start to write in English can you realize you need more writing practice....let me ask  why did you put 'can' before you, may be there is a reason which I don't know.? And, other members who read the corrections will benefit from them too. ...will be benefited from them or will get benefit....I am sorry to ask but, I am being a bit confused...I hope you don't mind.

  • @Anah

    Thanks so much for the comment. Yes, the more the better, but it takes a lot time and effort to take part in the challenge. I appreciate all of your great work here on MyEC.

    @femina

    I'm so glad that you have learned so much since you signed up here. Yes, one of the reasons we try to correct the errors in public is we think other members who read the corrections will benefit from them, too. Thanks!

  • Hi Everyone

    I keep re-reading, re-editing and re-publishing my blog, so you may see the same blog again and again. I'm sorry for that, but that's the way I learn. Also, I need to make the blog as accurate or correct as possible since I know so many members are trying to read my blogs and I don't want them to read my errors.

  • @viviana

    Yes, sometimes the message fails to go in if you fail to express it properly or accurately. And, I'm gald you'll try to participate in writing challenges.

    @Luci

    Don't get me wrong, dear. Indeed, I enjoy and really appreciate your writing challenge. What I was trying to say is that some members may think there are too many writing challenges. Not all the members enjoy writing challenge. They may just want to write something which they find interesting. But they should know "no pain no gain". If they really want to improve their writing skills, they should try to take up any writing challenge - at least Tara's monthly writing challenge. Keep up your great work and try to encourage them to write more.

    @Jesson

    Thanks for the comment. With more pratice, you'll be surprised to see how much your writing has improved.

    @Daniel

    Thank you for the nice comment. Keep writing and you'll agree it's worth it.
