A child’s brain is like a blank sheet of paper. It creates early impressions on what they observe, and television has the power to influence the perception through how the child sees the world. “…Cartoon Network has found out that in Asia, Filipino children are the most connected with television.”( J. Angelo Racoma). However the aim of this essay is to discus some negative effects of TV programs towards the attitude of children and to give us information on how to teach young adolescence become more responsible with their priorities.
Two years old baby is the very important stage for proper brain development as babyhood. They are easily get distracted by TV for their brain development.” According to research published in Pediatric Institute Publications, babies and toddlers learn by observing adults, even when those adults aren't intentionally trying to teach them anything”(“Eliza Martinez”). In the same way of watching television, children can adopt the negative behavior of some characters that they have watched, without knowing that it is wrong. Because babies begin to learn through observation, TV program can affect their characteristic as they grow. Actually TV is simpler machine that we not easily known could affect the natural behavior in which children explore, socialize, play and interact with parents and other children and for the children just now developing their brain in a normal manner, they need a big attention to encourage self-learning and brain training. (“Andrew Loh” 2) Babies begin to learn through observation so parents are the one who are responsible to avoid too much exposes on television.
Television program that contains violence action can cause a negative behavior and aggressive attitude of a child towards the others. Nowadays TV programs as much contains of violence and sexual images. They expose too young about it. Micheal Smith research said “…Surgeon General's report last year concluded that 61% of all TV programming contains violence.”(1) Children consume four hours a day of watching TV at the same time most parents don't spend the same amount of time, they much busy on their work than to guide their children of what they watching on TV, example is Goin Bulilit of ABS-CBN which is the main actors are children, which influence young audiences to watch it. Goin Bulilit goes under the criticism of public viewers, telling that some of the segments and jokes are not good for children to watch. It contains some inappropriate actions and language that young audiences can apply within them. They said that it is not a good program for kids because it is unconstitutional for the KBP broadcast code of the Philippines. Article 11 sec.11: “Children should not be made to perform acts, use language, or put on attire that is vulgar, obscene, indecent, or inappropriate for children” (“Flawed youth?”). Let us look some episode from November 23, 2014 in the segment. “...two children were playing the role of a husband and a wife. At the end of that certain part, one of the child actors said walang hiya ka!” [An evidence of letting young actors to speak nasty word] (“Flawed youth?”). In the same way, cartoons are one of the programs that can really entertain the children. Unknowingly there are some cartoons that contain violence actions. According to cartoon network, Ben 10 is one of the most popular cartoons nowadays. In other part, there are some parents who don’t allow their children to watch Ben 10 because they said that it portrays violence that their children can adopt. Some parents said that their kids have change after watching Ben 10 for several days; they become more aggressive with their actions (“Commonsensemedia”). Therefore parents should manage well their kids from watching television help them to each other having a quality time more than bonding.
Kids who spent too much time of watching television can have a chance to become more irresponsible. TV viewing is a very dynamic entertaining world it can bring the children in a new world that they ever seen before, it gave a chance to explore the globe shows them a different kinds of culture and more becomes expose of idea in community. “Despite of positive effects on children, however because those children much want to stay at the front of television because it reckoned them it is more interesting and entertaining than to read a books and do their assignment they did not noticed they spending a couple of time than to sleep earlier” (“The Good and Bad Effects of TV on Children”). “School kids who watch too much TV also tend to work less on their homework. When doing homework with TV on the background, kids tend to retain less skill and information. When they lose sleep because of TV, they become less alert during the day, and these results in poor school performance.”(“The Good and Bad effects of TV on children”). The attention of child in class shifting in what they feel than to keep focus on what is going on inside the classroom it is a big factor Watching more TV in childhood increased chances of dropping out of school and decreased chances of getting a college degree, even after controlling for confounding factors.
Watching television is one of the favorite pastimes of most children nowadays. It contains of various information that as a children could entertain and enamored it. Thus those information uncover the issues like sex, violence, bad language and inappropriate content are all real issues that concern our families today. However, are parents missing something here? Parents and a child both as a big aspect of why one family has not enough time for family and most is it the parents who always not in home.(“How TV affect your child”) As we can see a child now is typically TV like playing a big role in their life. Try our recommendation that we conclude while doing the research, that may help us decide what kind of role we want TV to play in our family: learn TV viewing may it replacing good activities in child’s life make them to realize how the beauty of world just waiting them outside the house. Then guide them do things like, playing with friends it helps them to boost their confident to interact with other person and gives them new friends, being physical active like in sports and get this opportunity not only to bonding them but also get more healthier, getting fresh air just go to back yard and do this as exercise daily morning, reading and show them reading is not boring, playing imaginatively it helps them to improves and exercise their neurons, doing home work for being responsible while as young, doing chores tell them this is good training ground for children. What is more important on studying this issue is to stop creating unfruitful citizens of our country, since we still believe that the youths are the saviors of our nation. We are the one who is responsible to train children on how becomes more realistic and more creative on what they are doing. Television is already part of our life, all we have to do is to lessen this issues of watching too much of television.
