The Goal of Education
Education can make us a full man. A man that is knowledgeable enough to know what is important in life, a man that is intelligent enough to understand the different situation in life and a man that has wisdom to change the present life. For me the goal of education is to make us a full man.
When I read the article of Mr. Vicente R. Hao Chin, Jr. “The Goal of Education” there were only three things that came up to my mind. The knowledge, intelligence and wisdom, these were I think the most important factor that education must build to us as a human being.
Knowledge
I think we are being educated because we need knowledge.
When we were young our teacher thought us how to properly wash our hands before we eat. Maybe before, we didn’t’ recognize the important of washing our hands, but as we grow older, we little by little understand that the simple washing of hands could prevent us from having a sick and later we realized that we already have the knowledge, the knowledge of proper hygiene and the knowledge of taking good care of our own health, because health is wealth.
Intelligence
We are being educated because we need to be intelligent enough to understand the different situation in life and to have a good relationship with the others.
When I was young, I was a timid kind of person. I never shared whatever I had in mind, people used to call me “loner” because I had no friends and I do not know how to interact with the others. Until one time, my teacher notice me for being so quiet she talked to me like I was her child and realized that I had a low self-esteem in dealing with my other classmates. What she did was she made a program to a student like me who do not know how to interact with people and it was somehow called as “remedial class” If I am not mistaken. I and my classmates on that special class were used to talked or communicate with each other like no one was listening, my teacher would gave a certain topic to start our communication the language that we are being used was English. After several days of doing the activity I felt more confident in using the said language and I felt more comfortable talking with my other classmates.
What I had learned with my teacher was to understand the situation of others and helped other people to boost their potential to be the best of what they can be.
Wisdom
Education is transformative.
When I was young I was not aware of what I was doing, I used to follow others idea about something not knowing if it was good or bad as long as I am living. I had no philosophies on how should I live my life.
But as the times goes by, I realize how important our life, that the role of education is to make us realize the reason of our own existence because for me life is meaningless and we are the one who puts meaning on it and through education we can see the beauty of our own existence and decides our own life, to live our life to the fullest.
Therefore, I conclude that knowledge, intelligence and wisdom are the greatest factor that we need to have in order to change our present life to a better situation. Education makes as a full man.
