On the wings of an eagle

On the wings of an eagle

If you want to dream, fly high in the sky!
Take the clouds like a blanket.
Look at how all the stars shine for you.
Look at the myriad of raindrops;
those all are tears of lovers
whose wishes were not met yet.
But don't stay there too long.
The sun will drive the clouds away
Heaven will send you an eagle,
he takes you on his wings and brings you back
so that you can find happiness on earth.

... Greeks bearing gifts

There are a lot of English vocabs that actually originate from Greek Mythology; thesis, thesaurus, hypothesis, etc. And don't get me started on the names: Odysseus, Perseus, Theseus. Yeah, yeah, yeah, a lota "yeuseus". Here are some of my faves.

Narcissus

On a scale of 1-10 he was a twenty! He was so obsessed with himself that when he saw his own reflection in the river, he fell in love. Not realizing he was staring at himself, he stared at his reflection until he died. The flower that bloomed whe

My friend Anju and I were standing in line to book tickets for a movie. It was getting longer than we expected and Anju was getting annoyed.

She told me that she would go to the inquiry desk and ask why they hadn't opened the office yet.

She came back after a while and reported that they told her they would open the office only at 11 o'clock.

"11 o'clock? That means we have to stand here for another hour!" I said, exasperated.

Just then, a group of rough looking men came and cut in front of the

Summer

What a boring summer! Liesel thought.

She had finished all the house works and there was nothing she could do after that. She decided to climb the hill not far from her backyard. Lately she found it peaceful to lying on the shade of a tree, watching the clear sky with bubbles of clouds. She had been busy with her own mind, thinking and cursing her three brothers that she acclaimed ‘having best summer holiday ever’.

Hans, the first, mostly buried himself on pile of books. Study was always his

He said that I needed to live fiercely.  He expressed that he wanted me to be brave.  I had thought then that this was false since I had always been afraid of many things.  But he had repeatedly told me that I had not known the full measure of my strength.  I had laughed silently at those words.

Then I got married and had children of my own.  He asked me one day if I had found my strength.  I said “I never sleep when my children are sick, I never cease to pray for their safety, I never let a da

The Long i Sound /i:/

Welcome to our second pronunciation lesson!  Can you remember what we discussed a few days ago?  In my previous blog, we learned about the short vowel sound called - the schwa /ə/, pronounced ‘ah’ or ‘a’. This is the most important sound in English. If you haven’t read my blog yet, please check out here.

This time, I’d like to share with you some information about another vowel sound – the long i sound pronounced /i:/(ee). It’s also a part of the monophthong which means a sin

A mad Lib is kinda like a book which has a short story on each page with a lot of key words replaced with blanks. Beneath each blank is specified a category, such as "noun", "verb", "place", etc.  One player asks the others to contribute some words for the specified blanks, but the context for that word is NOT revealed. Finally, when the story is completed, s/he reads it out loud. The result is usually surreal or somewhat senseless and illogical. My favorite!

This is an excerpt from Stern and Pri

A big truth we must keep in mind

We were created to last forever

God has ... planted eternity in the human heart. Ecclesiastes 3:11 (N LT)

Surely God would not have created such a being as man to exist only for a day! No, no, man was made for immortality. Abraham Lincoln

This life is not all there is. Life on earth is just the dress rehearsal before the real production. You will spend far more time on the other side of death-in eternity-than you will here. Earth is the staging area, the preschool, the tryout for your life in eter

Yes, when you want to quote someone's words or thoughts, you can do it in two ways: 'direct speech' (quoting the exact words that were said) or 'reported speech' or 'indirect speech' (without quoting the exact words).

In reported speech, the tenses, pronouns and other words may be different from those in the original sentence, for example:

She said (to me), 'I love you.'

She said that she loved me

Right, it can be so challenging for a learner to use a report structure correctly, but the good news

Lores and Tales

What I think be the rich heritage of a community is the lores and tales that had produced by the people of that society. Many of such art forms might have perish by the heavy flow of time and life. Still some of such things have protected by kind people. Any individual who is part and parcel of that particular society has a great responsibility to save and propagate such art forms. Such art forms may be well bonded with rituals and have a strong link with agricultural practices. A

In continuation of blog series under title " A Brief History: Foundation Of Pakistan", Part Seven is presented and dedicated to my Indian friend who wanted me to write it.

The Congress, before forming its ministries, put a condition on government to give an assurance that the governors would not use their special powers of interference granted by the Constitution for the protection of minorities. Only One Race: The Human Race.

"May you live interesting times"  is an expression known as a "Chinese curse". It's used ironically, with the clear implication that 'interesting times' in historical terms are those where lot of things 'happen' (turbulent times of danger and uncertainty: wars, riots and all kind of tragedies) while in times of peace and tranquillity, there are less 'remarkable' things to tell.

We're living "interesting times" now... And unfortunately, there will be more 'interesting' things coming soon. The worl

Love

Love, what is the secret that lies behind that word? I always try to avoid talking or even mentioning it. Of course, the subject needs more than a blog to write about. Naturally, we have to include the general concept of the word.  It is a feeling of liking someone or something very much.  They say that love is a feeling of deep regard, devotion, and fondness. A strong feeling of affection, attraction, and eagerness, you name it, a strong desire to be with someone, and share feelings. I tried i
