Did anyone watch Oprah's final show? I did. I even took a picture of my TV to capture the final moment. The only TV show I missed when I spent a year without TV was Oprah.

Why did I miss Oprah last year, and why will I miss her in the years to come? I used to think it was because Oprah offered a mini break from life. At 4:00 PM, for many years, I took a break from school, work, or motherhood to relax in front of the TV.  A few weeks ago, my husband hooked our TV back up for t

Last week I joined my class field lecture in Pacitan, East Java for a week. Well, we had so much activity to did and so less time for a rest. For each day we just had approximately 4 hours to sleep. On the way to the village, we listened to different Iranian musics. One of which was an Iranian-Turkish song that my father loves it so much. Therefore, the audioplayer played it so many times. You can listen to the music while seeing the attached photos (Please click on the following link to see the photos). On the way to Abyaneh

I tell you, one of the favorite foods that commonly accompanies me when I am online ... is shrimp vegetable fritter (bakwan udang). I'm able to digest more than ten pieces, the reason why I got fat now (haha ..). Fried food is very simple and can easily be cooked (visit this link : recipe shrimp vegetable fritter).

In Indonesia, generally this cuisine is served during rest time, while watching T

Last night, somewhere in Pakistan,a U.S. commandos ended the hunt for Osama Bin Laden. Do you think that, the fact that Al-Quaida's head was killed makes the world safer, or on the opposite, should we all be worried of what is going to come next as a revenge from the terrorists ?

My friends, i know it's a delicate topic to talk about, and i am not asking you if, what did the americans is right or wrong, or if we can find excuses to terrorisms acts. In fact, i have to admit that I have hesitated a

Ma'am, are you my Mother?

I've been a proud mom and always will be.  Therefore, I wanted to write something about my son and my fulfillment about being his mother.  I wanted to share the joy of my motherhood.  But in the end, I found myself writing about someone else's children.

Last night, I came across a folder of photos containing my trip to Sri Lanka last September. Something pinched my heart while looking at them.  How could have I easily forgotten about them - the children at the orphanages I visited?  Here I am a

Today, I asked a question in the OR (hospital's operating room). I hesitated to ask at first - what if I asked a stupid question? Would my Canadian counterparts look down on me because of a stupid question? But, the attending (a high ranking doctor) said, 'Good question! I know in Asia you don't...but in Canada we do...'.

So, here comes my question: What could be a 'stupid question'? Teachers usually want their students to ask questions. And, a question can be a good title for an article, or a go

I am starting this post not because I am using commas exactly as it should be. Not at all! The reason is I am learning how to use them properly. In my case learning starts with considering. Being aware of my poor memory I try to grasp the logic of a thing or a process and so I can memorize what is vital.

Some people don't use punctuation. When they are beginners, this is quite understandable.

Though I notice people who use complex grammar yet still almost omit using commas and even periods and cap

Have any of you ever heard of Storybird? It's a fun website that allows you to write your own stories based on beautiful art by professional artists. I learned about Storybird via Russell Stannard at the IATEFL conference in the UK last month.

I just created my first Storybird story called "Like Mother, Like Son." On Storybird, just like on MyEC, there is a monthly writing challenge. I submitted my story to the Storybird May challenge (Mother's Day theme). Unfortunately, this challenge is only

My Guest Blogger: Mr. Steve Kaufmann

Have you ever dreamed to be a polyglot? You may ask what polyglot means. Polyglot is a person who speaks so many languages, let's say four or five or even more. Mr. Steve Kaufmann is fluent in 10 languages. As such, I was eager to know how he could have learnt so many languages whereas I am still struggling to learn only English. Two minutes after I sent my E-mail requesting him to be my guest blogger, Mr.Kaufmann responded and kindly accepted my offer. You can read his blog here: http://theli

2) Leave a comment below. Use one of the following methods of guessing:

Why Do You Love MyEC?

Here are my Top 10 things why I love MyEC. We might be sharing the same reasons.

1. Being a member of this social networking site, I've met interesting people and continuously meeting different people around the world, with the same goal, to be fluent in English.

2. It's educational. All the things you need to learn are all in this site. Be it on grammar, pronunciation, and articles about the English language. You'll have the chance to learn different places too.

3. You can be artistic. I can

As many of you know, I am currently in the UK. Did you know that this is my first trip to Europe? Many of the English teachers here are shocked to hear this news. When I ask, "Have you been to Canada?" they usually shake their heads.

Would you also be surprised to know that I'm learning English while I'm here? British English is "brilliant". I love listening to the British accents.

Here are some British English words I've learned since I arrived (defined in Canadian English):

"brolly": umbrella (A
