Fireflies

a kid

running round

a tree

so big with branches

towering the house.

a second past.

the tree began to glow.

a million stars so low

hopping from each twig, each leaf.

the kid leaped.

a firefly was caught

put in a jar

and prisoner at last.

the kid was given his wish

granted at hand.

a firefly living in bliss

freedom its demand.

lights started to dim

a firefly weak of flying

a kid with a smile

turn to grimace.

Am I Who I Am?

I'm simply me.. a girl from the grass roots of society

loving a world far beyond Ligao City

making a life constrained by expectations

and celebrates her birthday on a cool summer night of May

who dreams of doing what she holds in her heart

and needs someone who can understand her imperfections

but feels pleased to make someone smile at the end of the day

and expects nothing in life but happiness

but is willing to commit mistakes as reminder that she is a human.

Did You Know? - This is Random

In this blog, I just want to share with you some of more familiar and often used expressions.

Did You Know?

1. October baby

2346648973?profile=originalWhen a person is said to be an October baby, it means that she/he was born prematurely; to be exact, she/he was born on her/his eight month. The origin of this expression was based on the meaning of October. October is the 'eight month' in the Ancient Roman calender. In the Ancient Roman, March; or it is called Martius back then, is the beginning of the year. Therefore, Octob

Dear Captain,

I went to visit Grandpa Lee again as I promised last time. He was happy to see me and talked a lot with me. But among all what he had told, he mentioned his grandson now and then. I can see his deep love to his grandchild.

He told me his grandson's name is Joseph Lee. When Joseph was born, Grandpa Lee flew to Sweden to visit him as well as his parents. Joseph came to China when he was three and stayed in China for half a year. Three years later, he visited China again with his parent

Look at My Teeth

2346672803?profile=original

Today the 24th of September 2013, it is my 29th Birthday. People say that if a person will have full set of 32 teeth, she/he will possess blessing power. I count my teeth by my tongue and it is 31 and one is cavity. Among 31 teeth one is a pseudo crown tooth made up of material to make a China Cup.

When I was a boy I had unusually large front teeth. They had become my identity. My friends used to tease me calling 'falike' which means having plank like tooth. In the village animals are

Words associated with MONEY

I think people everywhere dream about having lots of money. I know I do. I would give anything to make money hand over fist. I would like to earn large amounts of money. You could win a large amount of money everywhere through lotteries. People pay money for tickets with numbers. If your combination of numbers is chosen, you win a huge amount of money – often in the mil-lions. Winning the lottery is a windfall (a large amount of money that is won or received unexpectedly).
A few years ago, my fri

Understanding Happiness

From the ancient Greeks and Romans to current day writers and professors have been debating about happiness. What makes someone happy? In what parts of the world are people the happiest? Why even study happiness?

The Greek philosopher Aristotle said that a person’s highest happiness comes from the use of his or her intelligence. Religious books such as the Koran and Bible discuss faith as a form of happiness. The British scientist Charles Darwin believed that all species were formed in a way so

WHAT KIND OF SLEEPER ARE YOU?

So, how do you sleep? The pictures and descriptions below would help you to tell me here what kind of sleeper you are ;)

TYPES OF SLEEPERS:

THE SIDE SLEEPER. Constantly flipping sides throughout the night.

STOMACH SLEEPER. Drool. And neck pain.

BACK SLEEPER. Higher chance and intensity of snoring.

THE TALL-GUY. Downside: Being tall.

THE FORCEFIELDER. The blanket doesn't actually protect you from monsters

THE PILLOW-ARMER. Losing all feeling in your hands in the middle of the night

THE FORTRESS SLEEPER (

There are a large number of lists, I would like to change in my hometown. If we go through a scale of preference, the education is at the top of all. As there are two main resources, development of a country depends on, natural resources and human resources. How much the country is enriched with natural resources, but they, without human resources, may not be utilized properly. How can human resources be enhanced? Population should be equipped with quality of technical as well as academic educat

The beauty of heart.

The beauty of the heart
is the lasting beauty:
its lips give to drink
of the water of life.
Truly it is the water,
that which pours,
and the one who drinks.
All three become one when
your talisman is shattered.
That oneness you can't know
by reasoning

Dear Captian,

Today I went to do some volunteer work in a gerocomium with my classmates under my teacher's leadership.

I helped a grandpa massage his painful neck and listened to him. He has a son who lives abroad. He told me his son had asked him to live with them for many times since his wife passed away two years ago. But he refused. His son is an engineer and has married a foreign girl. So grandpa Lee doesn't want to interfere in their life. Yet he misses his grandson so much.

I think he is lon

My Tribute To A Very Good Man

This story is somewhat late in it's posting because my own thoughts and emotions needed to compose it properly. Honestly, It should have written it more than a few days ago. At least it's still September.

Our good EC friend (Helen) inspired me to finally write it.

On the morning of September 11, 2001, I was awakening to a fresh cup of coffee and simply watching the news before the day's work began here in California. Suddenly, it was interuppted by breaking reports that New York City was exploding

WHY ENGLISH IS HARD TO LEARN

Today, while rummaging through the drawers of my desk, I came across this witty grammatical pun:

We’ll begin with box; the plural is boxes,

But the plural of ox is oxen, not oxes,

One fowl is a goose, and two are called geese,

Yet the plural of moose is never called meese.

You may find a lone mouse or a house full of mice,

But the the plural of house is houses, not hice,

The plural of man is always men,

But the plural of pan is never pen.

If I speak of a foot, and you show me two feet,

And I give you a b

Who is the liar?!

None of us wants to tell a lie even a white one but what's going on in our daily life really? Don't we really tell lies?! I think the answer is so obvious! ;-) Let me tell you a big big big truth: Scientists have discovered there are many kinds of liars existing on this planet. (Don't you think I'm one of them, Do you?) lol :-D Look at this:

One whose words isn't a truth and isn't a lie as well is a philosopher!

One who estimates the truth and the lie as the same is a flatterer!

One who gets mo

Slang, Idioms, Euphemisms: Revisited

There is always a confusion between the use of a slang, idioms and euphemisms. Some English learners mistake slang as idiomatic expression and vice versa. This confusion leads to misuse of these expressions. This article aims to differentiate the difference between the three expressions and give examples to aid your learning.
