Inna, your cat probably knew his orange fur, which is something like the protective coloration similar to the shelf, could protect him from being found. Smart cat! :D
Aww I love your picture and your cat! It made me to remember my old lady cat, who passed away 9 months ago but still I miss her as much as if she'd left yesterday... She used to climb on the furniture like this.
Btw what is the name of your hairy orange friend? :)
