Hello teacher Galina,
Ta! I learned a lot for the tradition of Baptism of Christ you shared. It seems quite risky diving into such a chilly waters if their heart/body could afford that cold, much less curing for many different maladies. This reminds me of one of our religions called Taoism. They believe when someone got sick or something they felt not good in life, they may go to temples for "prescription or medicine". What they call "medicine" is kind of sigil or charm written by psychics on papers. Then, they'd drink the water with ash of those papers which are being burn after home. They believe their God would heal them via this. Even it's a bit superstition, many people still do so.
For the traditions of our Lunar New Year, I'm so glad you're interested in knowing it, and I'd like to share gradually. You know I'm fond of good a lot, so let's talk about food first. Most every dish traditionally eaten during Chinese New Year has some kind of symbolism. Such as fish, the word for "fish" is sounded with that of "surplus", so is widely eaten. Then, "Dumplings" supposedly hold some resemblance to Chinese gold ingots, so eating them means you will become prosperous. We also eat "Chicken", which is associate with the "luck" that is pronounced the same way and so on. Before I lived with my grandma, she'd prepared all those food on New Year's eve. Nowadays, my parents don't care that much the tradition. We simply prepare what we want to have. :) OK, that's all for today. If you'd like to know others, feel free to let me know. :)
Cheers,
Its name is azalea, which was just taken this evening. So fresh! ^^
Hello dearest teacher Galina,
I am doing fine. No class started yet, but except my project there are many interesting things are comimg my way and I get busy.:) You are busy again...:^) I will be attending my exam coming summer vacation, but for sure I am waiting for the Pronunciation lessons and wish you both will start it once again this summer...:)
WoW! It's wonderful to know more about your culter. We also have a similar festival here which is celebrated on 14th of January. On this day people take bath in holy rivers.....:)
Thank you so much, dear teacher Galina! :)
Hello dear Galina,
How are you doing ? I didn't notice the poster of Russian Old New Year you've shared on my page for some days. It's pity I missed the chance to say you another Happy Old New Year on time. Sorry for that. :P It's very interesting to know you have two calenders to celebrate them- New New Year and Old New Year. (I checked it from Google.) Is the date of Jan. 13th also a holiday? That's great! It seems we have the same as yours. Here we celebrate western New Year on Jan. 1st though it's not our main new year, and also celebrate our lunar new year that is our traditional one as I've told you before.
How's the weather in Saratov? Is it still snowing sometimes? We have a very cold front hit us today. In such a cold weather, it was struggling when getting up from bed in the morning. ^_^
The two lovely bears below was taken in front of a department store. I found them quite adorable. You can see a foot written with Chinese 蛇 with 2013 on one of their feet. That means our upcoming year is a year of snake according to Chinese Zodiac.
Hope you have a cheerful day. :D
