  It is my old friend Expector Smith! It is nice to hear from you. My activity in English Club has diminished due to a busy life. I am glad you find my blog on phrasal verbs helpful, or at least challenging. I cannot overemphasize the importance of phrasal verbs. The academic English learned in other countries is great for communication around the world. But if a person comes to the USA or another English-speaking country, they will find that everyday conversation is often a string of phrasal verbs and expressions. Before he returned to Korean, I had been tutoring a wonderful Korean man who was taking university courses here. He was so frustrated because in spite of a magnificent English vocabulary and excellent experience in English classes in Korea, he could not communicate with native speakers. This was frustrating in a university environment where he felt left out (oops – a phrasal verb) and not accepted in his classes. He simply did not know how to communicate in our informal phrasal verb manner. So I worked with him once a week for a year and he finally was able to communicate very well with his fellow students. A lot of it was phrasal verb instruction. So it is necessary to know phrasal verbs to understand our informal speech.
