Akauk Taung

At the end of the Second Anglo-Burmese war, Myanmar and British toll-posts were situated on Akauk Taung, a toll-hill in Myanmar language side by side. All boatmen had to pay tax to both posts. All sailing boats anchored close by the hill and waited till occasionally a week-long whirlpool ceased. The sailors prayed to God by carving Buddha images on the steep cliffside during that period. The mountain was named for the crafty toll-takers from the mid 19th Century.

On March 20, 2015, my school was celebrating the inauguration of Yogya as a special province. All teaching and administration staff in my school as well as all students were wearing Javanese traditional costumes. Me, in the photo above wear 'blangkon' (traditional hat), beskap (traditional suit), jarik (saroong-like covering for lower part of the body) and 'keris' (symbolical traditional weapon worn on the back). The beskap I worn is typical of that of upper classes.

Someone asked me to write traveling tips since I always travel, whether because of works or just for leisure. I'm not an expert, far from it. But this is what I always do when I have to travel.

1. Packing

I always roll my clothes. Try to avoid folding your clothes. That way it uses a lot of space. Instead, roll them. Put the bigger rolls first. Then put the smaller rolls or clothes such as underwear in between empty spaces. That way you will maximise every inch of your precious bag's space.
