There are in the English language words with supposedly same meaning but they have differences in usage.

Here are two of them and how to use them:
 
1. Let us speak about the NOUNS, Play, Game, Match and how to use them correctly.
1.1. Play: use play in the sense of pastime.

Example: The children spent hours on a play.

1.2. Game: use game in the sense of competition with certain rules.

Example: The Olympic Games take part every four years.

1.3. Match: use match when you want to speak in the sense of a

I did 15 minutes research to find out why do we use the left fourth finger as ring finger. Some source say the story began  2,800 years Before Christ in Egypt.
