Two young raccoons were having dinner in the evening. Taking pictures in the dark without flash was beyond the ability of my camera. Unexpectedly, however, the picture looked like a woodblock printing or a pencil sketch with the aid of a photo editing software, and I liked the raccoon standing like Totoro ^_^

Hi Rosenmaiden, for me it's nice to have the same operating system (OS) as the one at work. So, I'm using PC with no choice, and the OS is Windows XP. PCs at work and at home are under a good protection provided by my university. So, I don't have much security problem.
Nowadays I'm more tempted by free OS and free software, because I'm pretty tired of spending money just for updating. I think the Linux is a good pick, but don't know much about it. Hardi may know it better^^

I had some other more powerful things there to use, beside gamma correction.. I didn't understand how to use it, but well I got some results.. But I think my software isn't too different from Adobe Photoshop by it's possibilities.
I made a mistake before, my software is called Showfoto not showphoto.. it's a part from a bigger collection of photo tools for linux which is called "DigiKam"..
I'm glad you've tried too, Hardi! Gray-scale is a good idea. The raccoons look lively in the dark! I use Adobe Photoshop software. The gamma correction or level adjustment does this work. Digital photography gives a great potential of presentation to us, ordinary photographers. That's great, although I don't like to add too much distortion to the original pictures ;)
I think that also films about predators could be made to interesting. There's much more about every animal. They aren't just only breeding and eating. Also what these animals meant to our ancestors.. the folklore. Well raccoons have very very big part in Japanese folklore.. cranes probably too. But I also don't have interest of predators, don't want to see how lion is shopping for dinner.
Anyway, since u posted the photo's original.. I wanted to play with it too and see how clear my linux software (ShowPhoto) and my hyper greatly bad skill can make it... well here it is. I transformed it also to gray-scale and resized to small.

Basically I don't discriminate animals for whatever they eat. These raccoons too are little predators for frogs. The predators have their own sorrow; they are always hungry looking for food and still have to raise their youngsters. Lions are far fewer than zebras in number, which tells us how lion's life is tough. As you say, as predators, nothing is worse than humans that kill animals more than necessary for various reasons other than eating. I think we should propagate Ghibri films to the world ^_^

As for small animals... I love all of them, and in my opinion, big animals' lives in a larger measure are run the risk because of people. For example, elephants, horses, leopards,and so on...
Predators don't deserve much sympathy, only a little bit? People are the main predators... What should be done with it ?LOL
Hardi, the film of cranes is beautiful. The folk songs naturally match the behavior of different kinds of cranes. I had no idea the narration was talking about, but I guessed it and enjoyed very much!
Some Animal Planet programs are good, but most times I feel some artificial flavor in them. And it seems they tend to like predatory animals for some reason, in which I don't find much interest -.-
That video was a clip from a Estonian doc film "vanamees ja põder" (old man and moose). It's about a moose researcher Harri(70++) who have researched moose 30 years.
Though I prefer ones about small animals.. My favorites are always the ones made by Estonian Nature photographer "Rein Maran" :D He uses nice old folk music.. so it's not just about nature but also local folklore.. I grew up by seeing his films from tv(sometime).. So I really like them..

I have few times tried to watch also Animal Planet channel, but never liked.. I suppose the ones I happened to see were too bad made just by money to earn money.
Hi Hardi, yes I prefer small animals to predatory large animals. Once I stood by the big goose family desperately waiting for them fly almost for 2 hours, but in vain. Otherwise I don't need much effort. Those small animals just show up in front of me when I walk to work and home.
Thanks for the video. To some people, that photographer is wasting his time, but I know he is really happy in engaging animals like that ^_^
