These are old worn drive chain parts. Such chain, shouldn't be used anymore, because they are in state where they already accelerate wear too much. Both their own and also brackets wear would be accelerated, when using them.
The wear is accelerated, because the chain length is elongated due to wear.. The step of chain's links don't match with the step of sprocket's teeth.. so only first few links from sprocket's drive side hook firmly with chain and take all tension.. under too much tension they wear quicker.. and also chain is "crawling" through of sprocket's valleys.. the chains pin's rollers land to one side of valley and while the sprocket turns they move "crawl" to other side until they can get firm grip... until they wear sprockets teeth so much away that they can't get any grip anymore and chain start to flip over.
