I see that I missed replying to your question here. It is a state park called Lost Maples State Natural Area. You can come by car but then you must go everywhere by foot. We sometimes camp in the "Backcountry Camping" areas where there are no facilities of any kind, just areas set aside where you are allowed to camp.
We also sometimes camp down at an area where you park your car and have a small table to cook and eat on. It would have a small roof overhead so you can eat if it is raining. Some people do not camp in tents in this area, but have a motorized camper that is like a bus with beds and a kitchen in it.
Lost Maples is named for the Maple trees which still live in the park protected by the canyons from the dryer climate that is now there. We know that in the past when megafauna (large animals like mammoths and mastodons) lived in this area Maple trees and other moisture loving species lived all over the area.
Now after the Ice Ages are gone these are the only maples left because everything is now so dry. It is a very pretty place and birds are also protected there as are all animals and plants. Nothing can be cut down, picked or killed so all can see it.
