That is correct, the tube ends may be rolled into the tubesheets or welded and then rolled. The welding is used where there is more concern about a leak which may cause liquids from the shell side and the tube side to mix together. I will post some more photos and talk about the two main kinds of welded tube ends.

I studied them at the academy. This one I think is shell-and-tube type, right? It's widely used in oil refineries to exchange heat. There also types with a floating head:
