My potatoes and lettuce kept me busy today. The soil is black where I watered the potato plants. There are some small cabbage plants in the foreground of the photo.

Thanks everyone. It is really good soil because these mountains were all volcanos long ago. Also, I have found prehistoric stone tools and a very oxidized area from a fire which makes me believe the field has been in use for more than a thousand years.
As for Colorado beetle, we don't seem to have it here. The one eating my leaves has a Japanese name which translates as Ladybird Trick. I guess that is because it looks sort of like a Ladybird or Ladybug. I will post a photo of it.
