Russia is so rich in interesting places (both historical and natural) that I faced the dilemma to choose one of them. Still I decided that it should be the Moscow Kremlin. The Moscow Kremlin is a historic complex at the heart of Moscow, overlooking the Moskva River. It is the best known of kremlins (Russian citadels) and includes five palaces, four cathedrals and the enclosing Kremlin Wall with Kremlin towers. The complex serves as the official residence of the President of the Russian Federation. The name Kremlin means "fortress". The Slavs occupied the hill in the 11th century The existing Kremlin walls and towers were built by Italian masters over the years 1485 to 1495. The irregular triangle of the Kremlin wall encloses an area of 275,000 square metres. Its overall length is 2,235 metres, but the height ranges from 5 to 19 metres, depending on the terrain. The wall's thickness is between 3.5 and 6.5 metres. All in all there’re 20 Kremlin Towers. The highest is the Troizkaya tower (73,9 metres). The Spasskaya Tower ("Saviour Tower") is the main tower with a through-passage on the eastern wall of the Moscow Kremlin, which overlooks the Red Square ( you can see it on the photo). The clock on the Spasskaya Tower appeared between 1491 and 1585. It is usually referred to as the Kremlin chimes (Кремлёвские куранты) and they designate official Moscow Time. The total weight of the clock is 25 tons. It occupies three floors ( 7th, 8th, 9th) and strikes every quarter of an hour.Cathedral Square is the heart of the Kremlin. It is surrounded by six buildings, including three cathedrals. It looks fabulous! The Kremlin Wall is a defensive wall that surrounds the Moscow Kremlin. The original walls were likely a simple wooden fence with guard towers built in 1156.The Moscow Kremlin is usually the first place to visit for Russian and foreign tourists. My last visit there was exactly one year ago in August. This is the link to hear the Kremlin Chimes:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MNDkh2JLQYQ

  • Wow! Gabriel!

It's nice to hear that you're playing a virtual visit to the Moscow Kremlin! How're you doing it? Looking at the photos? By the way, the music you've inserted here is so lovely: light and energetic. It agrees well with the walk around the territory of the Kremlin! Ok let's go...

And the first choice should be the Armory Chamber.

The Armory Chamber is a very special museum located on the territory of the Moscow Kremlin. It serves as a treasure house of Russia and contains over four thousand precious items. Most of these items were presented to the Russian Tsars and Emperors by overseas ambassadors who sought to improve diplomatic relations and to appease Russia on various occasions.

The collections of the Armory Chamber preserve the state regalia of Russia. The most precious exhibit of the entire museum is the famous Cap of Monomakh. This first diplomatic gift in the history of Russia was presented to the Great Prince Vladimir of Kiev by the Byzantine Emperor in 1116 proclaiming him to be a Russian tsar. Since then the beautifully decorated cap has been the official crown of all Russian tsars until early 18th century.

The Armory Chamber also contains unique collections of Russian ceremonial and coronation dresses, and vestments of the Russian Orthodox Church top hierarchs.

A rare collection of medieval weaponry is also on display. All items belonged to the Russian Tsars and Great Princes, and were either produced by Russian masters or given to the Russian Crown as diplomatic gifts.. A colorful collection of the state carriages is located in one of the halls of the museum.

The Diamond Fund is a very special exposition of the Armory Chamber. The Diamond Fund stores the biggest and most valuable diamonds which were ever found on the territory of Russia including several of the famous Faberge Easter Eggs.

But two very important RECOMMENDATIONS: There are different kinds of tickets - Buy it in advance at the entrance but be sure to buy the rights ones (with the Armory Chamber included). And be aware: the Kremlin is closed on Thursdays.

You're absolutely right that Russia and its capital Moscow are exciting places for tourism. Besides due to the fact that Russia is a vast country you can see absolutely different places! I'd advise you to start with Moscow. It's a historical city ( was founded in 1147), so you can touch history at every step! Most of the tourists start their tour around Moscow with the Kremlin! This is the Tzar Bell ( tzar means 'king'= the biggest). The Tsar Bell, a masterpiece of the Russian casting of the XVIII century, stands on the stone base to the east of the Ivan-the-Great Bell-Tower. It was cast in 1733-1735 on the order of empress Anne Ioannovna by the casting-masters Ivan Motorin and his son Mikhail. Up till now the Tsar Bell is considered to be the biggest one in the world. It weights about 202 tons and is 6,14 meter high. Its diameter is 6,6 m.

  • Wow! Gabriel!

It sounds absolutely Russian! Where did you find it? I love the melody! So cheerful and light and joyful! I enjoy listening to it!Tthanks a million for posting this lively music!

This is the Tzar Cannon. The Tsar Cannon is a unique item of the Kremlin’s artillery collection.

It was created in 1586 in Moscow’s Cannon Court by eminent Russian cannon-caster Andrei Chokhov on the order of Tsar Feodor Ioannovich, the sovereign ruler of All Great Russia. The Tsar Cannon is located on the west side of Ivanov Square, between the Ivan-the-Great Bell-Tower and the Twelve Apostles’ Church.

Judging by the Tsar Cannon’s caliber of 890 mm, it was given its name as the world’s biggest cannon. The gun’s tube’s weight is about 40 ton, its length is 5,34 m. The Tsar Cannon has never shot.
