The old citadel of Arg-e-Bam in south-eastern Iran. Invaded by Afghanistan in 1722, it was largely abandoned, then resettled and again invaded by Shiraz. In 2003 it was further destroyed by a strong earthquake. My husband told me that the first time he visited, a wind was blowing and he felt as though he could hear the voices of the people who had died in the invasions.
