Hey there, I'm Syaeful, but my friends usually call me Sya, and you're also welcome to call me so. I'm from Indonesia. I'm an English teacher. I've been teaching since 2015. My five years of experience have allowed me to handle students of different age groups and levels. I love teaching,  and I think this will be my one and only profession. 

When I'm not teaching, I'm also an English learner. And I'd say I embarked on my English learning journey right after I finished senior high school because before that I didn't really pay attention to my English teachers. I'd always thought that English was difficult, if not impossible to learn, and boring. As a result, my English scores were always bad. What motivated me to learn English intensively was when I visited a museum in my hometown. There, I saw someone who was approximately my age giving a tour to foreigners in English. And I thought to myself if he can do it then I also can.

As far as my English learning goes, I've been doing everything I can to keep my English going. On weekdays, I enjoy watching shows on Netflix for at least an hour, the amount can quadruple on weekends. In fact, sometimes I'm not sure if this binge-watching is for English improvement or purely for the sake of entertainment. But I can't deny that this compulsive Netflix viewing has helped me tremendously with my English. Anyway, my favorite shows include Friends, How I Met Your Mother, House of Cards, Kim's Convenience, The Good Place, Nailed It, 72 Dangerous Animals: Latin America and the list goes on. Not only these shows are entertaining, but they'll also expose you to useful phrases and expressions that will make your English sounds more natural.

Another thing that I do every day in an effort to take my English to the next level is reading. I wouldn't say I'm an avid reader, but I enjoy reading very much. I read almost anything from Facebook status updates to self-help books. I'm not going to lie that reading is a bit less fun compared to watching shows, but in my opinion, this is the fastest way to expand not only my word repertoire but also my general knowledge.

One final thing that you may want to try is to learn new skills by watching video lessons or lectures in English. Over the last three months, I've been learning how to play the piano on Udemy. And I'm amazed at the fact that I can now play simple songs and also the fact that my English is getting a lot better.

I'm currently focusing on my speaking skills. And one of the reasons I created a MyEnglishClub account is so that I can find an English speaking partner. Everyone is welcome, but I prefer someone from other countries to ensure that we only communicate in English and also preferably someone who is at least at an upper-intermediate level.
