I know very little about Baku but I have a good friend in the US who is from Tabriz, and is Azeri. I would like to visit someday but lately the world seems such a dangerous place for visiting! So very sad. I will be happy to help with English as time allows, but, warning---sometimes I get too busy and am late with response. But I'll try.
I know that Baku is the capital of Azerbaijan, and I believe the country is primarily Muslim. I have a dear Iranian friend (who lives in California) who is Azeri, but he is from Tabriz, Iran and not Azerbaijan. I see in Wikipedia that the origin of the country's name is rooted in Zorostrianism. I visited Iran in 2000 and in Yazd (south Iran) visited a Zoroatrian temple and learned about Ahura Mazda. My husband lived in Iran in the mid/late 1970's for 2 years but I don't think he visited Azerbaijan. Does Azedrbaijan have many buildings in the beautiful style of Islamic architecture? Nothing is more beautiful. I visited Cordoba Spain many years ago and saw the beautiful mosque there. The center had been converted to a Catholic church in the gothic style, and to me it looked out of place and clunky compared to the simplicity and beauty of the Islamic columns.
