Just Reconnecting....

One year without EC?  Wow, I made it, haha!  My friends used to place their bets on me that I could never live without EC even for a year.

I won't say that they totally lost their bets.  It's still true that EC will always be a favorite hangout for me.  If not, I wouldn't be here trying to reconnect.  The fact is, I am just stealing a portion of my tight schedule for my dearests here on EC.  I left them suddenly without explanations and made them worry to the point of cursing me.  (What a great bunch of friends I have, lol!)  But I will always love them to the point of understanding their exaggerated feelings!  Oh, I know it will also be the same case for me if a friend suddenly was out of contact.  Anyway, that's how friendships survive in the net.

As my country is under the new governance of the newly elected president, the education system for the fifth graders is also under the new curriculum.  Since May, I have undergone a rigid training in preparation for this new education system.  Everything is new so a big adjustment has loomed ahead.

At present, I can't still fully embrace this big change making it quite a big challenge for me and the teachers who underwent the same national training and seminar.  It's like walking on the rudiments of one stage of life, like keeping up with the paces of the giants' roadsteps or like making your first speech in front of a very large crowd.

Anyway, there's always EC to keep my life balance.  Thanks for dropping by and reading it.

Lovelots,

Lady Anne

Thanks for keeping in touch...

The most awaited part of any beauty pageant is the question and answer portion.  It is where the contenders give their best answers to try to impress the judges for what they think as their final opportunity to shine.  Their answers usually leave an imprint that elicits differing views from the famous and the infamous people of the world.

Here in EC, let’s have a prototype example of the question and answer portion in view of the last Miss Universe 2015 beauty pageant held just recently.  Posted as a writing challenge, show the world that you also have the ability to outsmart their answers.  Prove it and impress the world with your remarkable, striking and stirring answer for this writing challenge, the Mr. and Ms. EC Question and Answer.

Your task:

  1. Select a question (given below) where you can give your best answer. (You may create your own question to your liking.)
  2. Write your best answer in not less than 100 words. (Long answers are acceptable)
  3. Post your Q and A as a blog and write the title Writing Challenge: Mr. and Ms. EC Q and A

Select your question here: (or may create your own question)

  1. What do you like most in this club?  Why?
  2. If you have the chance to speak to Josef Essberger about the state of English environment in this club, what would you tell him?
  3. If there is one thing you can do to change a section in this club, what will it be? Why?
  4. What do you think is the best section in EC that has made your English learning improved? Why?
  5. Who is the most influential person in your life? Why?
  6. What is the relevance of learning English in your life, in your society and in your environment?
  7. If you would be isolated in an island with 3 EC members, who would these 3 members be? Why them?
  8. To whose famous personality do you find yourself parallel with?
  9. What do you think is the greatest problem that EC is facing today? Explain.
  10. What is the biggest risk you’ve taken in your life?  Why?

My example:

Mr. and Ms. EC Q and A

Question:  What would you like to be remembered for in EC?

Answer:  I want to be remembered as a jolly member of EC who generously leaves so many traces of English words to make it known to the learners that English Club can be the best practicing ground for our writing skill.  I also want to be remembered as the member who tries to share her knowledge (though limited) about English language and learn herself through an enjoyable interaction with the other members of like precious goal.  Lastly, I want to be remembered for my words -- “Aiming for excellence is not impossible to achieve if one is focused on improving his English by heart”.

Note:  This challenge is open to both male and female EC members.

Members can make their own question.

“Keep the fire of writing for the sake of English improvement ever burning in your heart.”

With so much enthusiasm, I am proud to announce my WORD of the Year for 2016:   SAM

Yes, SAM will be a favorite word of my lips comes 2016.  She came to our house brought along by a veterinarian on the night of December 15.  After several instructions which I hardly understood, I came to accept SAM in my life.  Honestly, I am not really an animal lover but there was something between SAM’s eyebrows which told me to take pity on this little canine.  She tricked me with that pitiable look!

She’s barely two months old but after a day, she began showing a quick adjustment to her new surroundings.  As a puppy, she is still fed with milk and vitamins.  She is not yet allowed to roam outside our house as her vaccine is not yet complete.

2016 will be a nice year for me to look forward to because of SAM’s company.  I always believe that pets can really relieve stress. Playing and taking care of them have a therapeutic effect on the health of their masters, too.

It’s almost one week now since Sam came as the newest member of the family.  She is already trained to poo (defecate) in our toilet or comfort room.  She is not yet allowed to go outside so she has no choice but to go straight to our comfort room whenever she feels the need to do "it".  But sad to say, she still pees (urinates) inside the house wherever she thinks she can.

Hoping you’ll give me some tips on how to deal with a dog like SAM.  By the way, she is a labrador.  I hope I will become a good master for her.

Are You Ready 2

Dear Learners,

Welcome to another set of lessons which I promised to give you this summer.  These lessons are very simple and easy to understand but lack of understanding them will make it confusing for you to use.

Have you been confused whether to use "in" or "on" in a sentence?  Do you think the two sentences below are using "in" and "on" correctly?

They looked okay, right?  But, they didn't use "in" and "on" correctly.  Tricky, isn't it? These short "words" (in and on) are but only two of the prepositions that you will learn how to use appropriately.

Come and learn about them in my group.  Click the icon below to see the schedule of the lessons.

Three lessons will be given per schedule.  Study each lesson very well and answer the quiz that goes along with it.  For the English beginners, this will be a good start for you.  For the English enthusiasts, this will be a good practice and review for you.

If you wish to join, please leave your message in the comment box below for pooling purposes.

Now, you are ready to study Lesson 8.  Click the icon below and it will take you to the lesson.

Old and new members are welcome to join!  Enjoy learning to the max.

Everyday, I have to wake up as early as 3 a.m. to get ready for school.  Getting ready means printing the daily lesson plan for my 8 subjects and other important school related documents.  I also have to prepare for my pack lunch since there are no food stalls in the village where I am teaching.  Lastly, I have to pay attention to my grooming because I am always surrounded by pupils of all grade levels.  This is my early morning routine but this does not make the hardest part of being a teacher.

When everything is set and ready, I have to be at the central terminal as early as 5:30 a.m. to catch the first trip because the jeepney (public vehicle) leaves the terminal at exactly 6:00 a.m.  There is only one jeepney that commutes early in the morning so the vehicle is jampacked or fully loaded with teachers always.  These teachers teach in other villages that we pass by.  If a teacher comes a little late than 5:40 a.m., he will surely lose a seat and have no choice but to sit atop the jeepney or on its steps or stand at the rear entrance while holding onto the rails attached to the roofing of the vehicle.

It takes almost an hour before I arrive at the village where I teach.  I always take a few sleeps away during the ride but one can never have a full one hour sleep because the ride is like  a roller coaster ride where big lumps and humps are strewn on the road.  It’s always a bumpy ride on a rocky road.  I always equate this ride to riding on a boat amidst a turbulent sea.  The first time I had this ride, I was kind of dizzy and felt like vomiting.  Now, being used to it, I can say that it’s not the hardest part of being a teacher.

Since I am handling 41 pupils where boys are greater in number than girls, the discipline should be the constant companion of my everyday lesson deliverance.  It’s not hard to discipline village kids because they are not yet morally devastated by the destructive influence of the new technology.  In other words, there is no internet there.  The place is mountainous where signals are out of coverage.  People live a very simple life devoid of sophistication and modernization.

The ride back home is sometimes a difficult experience.  Since the village where I teach is second to the last village where the jeepney takes the route, it comes with a packed riders sometimes that I have no choice but to sit atop the vehicle.  Again, there is only one jeepney that takes the last trip.  Have you seen a teacher riding on the top of the jeepney?  This is prohibited when the jeepney enters the metropolis but when the authorities see our uniform, they let the jeepney pass without delaying it.  Lol, even the policemen are afraid of the teachers?  It’s not comfortable to ride atop the vehicle.  You can’t even smile back at those people who shout “Ma’am, be careful up there!” but it’s better compared to riding a funeral service car.  Gosh, I experienced that , too when there was no available jeepney to take us back home.  But this again, is not the hardest part of being a teacher.

Back home, after dinner, I have to devise, prepare and encode the daily lesson plan for my 8 subjects.  I have to construct some short quizzes and improvise visual aids to support my lessons.  After a long bumpy ride, my body can’t do much more than these.  When the clock strikes 8:00 p.m., I can’t hold on anymore.  Sleepiness takes over so I always leave the unfinished job to be done first thing in the morning.  But this is also not the hardest part of being a teacher.

Last week, March 27 (Friday) our school held the last culminating activities, the Recognition Day where deserving pupils were given some awards and the Graduation Day for the Grade Six pupils.  The Grade Four pupils kept on coming to my room and were so excited to become my pupils next school term.  My Grade Five pupils were just silently watching them coming like a bunch of leaping kangaroos.  I saw two contrasting worlds.  The world of the rejoicing and the world of the mourning.  I know that saying the last influential word means hearing a wail.  To suppress the emotion, to hold back the tears, it’s better to nurture a heart of stone at times like this.  Whenever our eyes (my pupils' and mine) met, there was a meaningful exchange of a fake smile.  I saw some of them turning back and kind of wiping something on their eyes.

The naughtiest boy approached me and told me to retain him so that he would be in my class again next school term.  Others followed suit.  I know I heard this before from my previous pupils but it always touches my weakest emotion.  I always tell them that they are just going to have a new teacher but this doesn’t mean that they can’t see me anymore.  Throwing the last stern look at them, they know that I didn’t need another word from them.   It’s okay for me to see them cry, but I am decided that I won’t let them see me cry.  I have to be strong.  I don’t know the exact reason but I think that this is the proper way.

Saying farewell to my pupils, knowing that the closeness developed all throughout the school year will be stagnated by this permanent parting, this...  is the hardest part of being a teacher.

**************

I know this is long but forgive me for I am not an expert when it comes to making series.  A million thanks for reading it my EC friends.

I LOVE YOU Challenge

I LOVE YOU….

Are words which we often hear from our loved ones, from our friends, from our kids, from our colleagues and from our superiors.  These magic words somehow captivated our hearts and made us feel special and valued.

When a man utters those words to his girl, it means that she is precious to him.

When a kid utters those words to his mom, it means that mom is very special to him.

When a friend utters those words to his friend, it means that his friend is very important to him.

But when an EC member utters those words to another EC member, the essence of the meaning is lost.  Lol.

Actually, I am not very sure about how one member feels about after receiving those affectionate words from another member.  So I made a great challenge in the EC main chatroom to verify what one feels after receiving those words.  I found out that majority of the members are hesitant to say the words.  I could sense their shyness for reasons still unclear.  Maybe, they can explain it further here.

THE CHALLENGE:

MEET THE BRAVEST MEMBERS

CHALLENGER 1:  SKR

CHALLENGER 2:  LADY ANNE

CHALLENGER 3:  BLESSING

CHALLENGER 4:  ALLEN

CHALLENGER 5:   REEYAZ

CHALLENGER 6:   CROCODILE

CHALLENGER 7:  RATU

CHALLENGER 8:  BIAN

There you have them folks.  Have them explain why they chose to say I love you to the members of their own choices and what do they mean by those words.

****************

Dare to say I love you to a member?  Why not!  Let the other members know how special they are to you!  Put them in words and write them in the comment.

THIS IS A CHALLENGE which can make others happy.  Give LOVE on this MONTH of the HEARTS.

P.S.  The challenge was made out of pure fun and the participants were sports enough to unanimously agree to put this craziness into a blog.  Thanks to the insistent demand of CROCODILE.

Select, Learn and Have Fun

Hello, my EC friends.

I am giving you back my 5 not-so-wise kittens.  Some of you may still remember what they did last time.  Oh yes, they just read your personality according to your choices.

Last time, you only had to choose 2 kittens in order to get your personality read.  This time, I am going to ask something (a little bargain) from you first.  I want 3 passes from you in exchange for reading your personality.

HOW TO GET THE 3 PASSES

1.  From the picture (given below), select and write the two letters of the following:

     a.  First letter - the kitten you like the most

     b.  Last letter - the kitten you like the least (or the one you hate)

2.  Correct the 3 sentences (they contain grammatical errors) that I am going to give you.  If you correct them perfectly, you will get your 3 passes.

3.  But .. you will be given another 3 sentences to correct for every incorrect sentence you make. So, if you have 2 incorrect sentences, you will be given 6 sentences to correct again.

REMEMBER

Three (3) passes means a no mistake sentences.  So be careful in correcting the 3 sentences.

ARE YOU READY?

Here they are... my 5 not-so-wise kittens.  Of course, you won't be able to find Noas there for her presence will only outsmart my poor kittens.

PICK YOUR OWN CHOICES

My First Group

I couldn’t describe it, but I wanted to share it.  This time, I failed to write the precise words that would give a vivid picture of what I truly felt.  I was stunned, fell short of words, too happy, or maybe too excited.  Oh, I don’t know, but I really felt grateful as I am, always.

I guess this was what others felt when they published their first blog after being dormant for a very long time.

Guess what!  The first group I created yesterday after having stayed in EC for almost 4 years, has been approved today.  And I am too happy to share it with you.

Since I love to give short lessons and quizzes to the EC learners, I felt that the need to create a place where all my lessons will be pooled together for easy reference, arises.  Thus, “Grammarly Yours” is born.

My friends, fellow teachers, EC learners (old and new), let us help each other learn English.  The group is open for all.  You can click the name of the group below and it will take you there.

Your new learning partner in English is born...

Thank you!
