G' day, my dear Teacher. First of all, I hope you and your family are fine. Second, I want you to know that I´m sorry ´cause I hadn´t written before. Third: Right now, I´m working as an English teacher at the university where I´m studying to be a lawyer. As a teacher I´m facing a big challenge: I´m teaching English to students who are studying to be lawyers or crime scene investigators. English must be focused on legal terminology, so, my new vocabulary is: lawsuit, civil code, blood (!!!), arson, and so on, but I´m happy ´cause I´m learning a lot, too !!! I think it will be useful for my profession. What if I get a job at the UN? Ok, now, my dear Bill, let me tell you that I will probably start again with my questions about grammar doubts. Some of them are really simple, but they´re doubts anyway. Look at this one: I have a group of students on level one, so, I have to teach basic topics such as the cardinal numbers. We used numbers in several ways: Telling the time, with math operations and finally with loooong numbers involving billion, million, thousand, hundred. The book "says" that you can´t use plural for thousand or hundred, but it doesn´t say a word about million and billion. This is my doubt: If I use the word as a noun I can use a plural form, but if I use it as an adjective (qualifying another noun) I have to use the singular form. Examples: How many dollars are there on your bank account? - "Well, there are hundreds". Or, "Well, I guess I have about two hundred dollars" (hundred is qualifying "dollars"). BUT I can´t say "Well, there are about two hundreds". However, it´s different with "million" and "billion" ´cause I can say "Well, there are about two millions", "there are millions" but I can´t say "there are about two millions dollars" . Am I right?, my dear Bill. I hope you can give me a further explanation. God bless you...five billion times.
P.S: How would you write in letters this number: 345.679''123.987'456.835.
