I'm gathering my words again to make another blog. I hope you can check it when I'm done. Is it still fine with you? (as I can see how busy you are now...)
Thank you and Have a great day
It's nice to hear about you and it's a pleasure and privilige to exchange opinions regarding the learning and teaching of English. You pointed out a very interesting question about learning English here in Panama in particular, since there seems to be some kind of little passion in learning English here in comparison to other countries, Europe or Asia, for instance.
Well let me tell you that English is like a second language here in Panama. Since Panama is a center of banking, communication and because of the Canal, English is a MUST. Most people exchange Spanish and English words daily in a natural way that sometimes you wonder what language we are really speaking. Yet must students in our schools and colleges take English like any other subject just to fulfill a program. There is a constant revision of the curriculum that most public schools follow but goals are not clear, and probably, the most important element needed is absent: MOTIVATION. Tourism have greatly impacted Panama in these past few years, and English is in great demand. All kinds of programs and opportunities are opened for anyone willing to learn English. But for some reason which I still can identify, most students quit the courses.
Well Bill, there might be a lot of reasons, I'm not an expert, but I feel that motivation is the key here. Anyway, I'm trying to do my part for ·there is more happiness in giving, than in receiving·, isn't it ?
Thanks for your kindness in allowing me to write these few words to you. I'm here to continue at any other moment,
Thanks,
Jaime (Jaans)
