Abstract

This essay seeks to analyze the role the protagonists in Roy’s book play in making the story. It goes into an in-depth analysis of the Estha and Rahel. The essay tries to point out how they feel, view the world, and how these two shape their lives. Furthermore, the essay will point out the role played by environment, society, and culture in the process of socialization. These aspects shape who we become largely. The paper will seek to justify why Roy wrote the book just before the long awaited millennium. Besides, the essay will examine and point out the political, historical, philosophical, and psychological impacts the book made. Moreover, the paper will endeavor to bring to light some of the achievements that Roy has made since its publication. Further, the author has used art to try to liberate women, not only in her hometown but also in other parts of India. The negative effects the caste system has had on peoples’ lives will be discussed.
