Although the best way to learn the correct use of prepositions is by reading and practicing more exercises ,but there are certain rules which are worth knowing.
I think we should revise these rules from time to time to refresh our memories for the suitable use of the prepositions in our sentences .
Why don't we share and revise these rules ? Isn't better and less boring to work together on this grammatical topic?
I will start the first discussion by :
1-Prepositions of place : In - At
- In : suggests "enclosed" "within an area:
in a box -in the room – in London –in India .
in a box -in the room – in London –in India .
- At : suggests : "not enclosed" .
at the crossroads – at the end of the road
at the crossroads – at the end of the road
at the station – at the bus stop .
....................................................................................................................
We use at when we want to suggest that some activity is taking place :
-He is working at his desk.
-We saw a good film at the cinema.
-The teacher is standing at the blackboard.
-He is working at his desk.
-We saw a good film at the cinema.
-The teacher is standing at the blackboard.
Note : we use these expressions " in the middle"
"in the corner of the room"
"at the corner of the road"
....................................................................................................................
"in the corner of the room"
"at the corner of the road"
....................................................................................................................
Exercise : Fill in the spaces with the suitable preposition ( at / in ) and try to add more additional sentences : Let's learn from each other :)
1-He put his desk ………..the middle of the room .
2-She was born ………..a small village .
3-Our house is ……….the top of the hill.
4-There has been an accident …………..the corner of the street .
5-……….my city there are two churches.
6-There is a bus stop ……..the end of the road .
7- Does she work ........ an office .
2-She was born ………..a small village .
3-Our house is ……….the top of the hill.
4-There has been an accident …………..the corner of the street .
5-……….my city there are two churches.
