Approving Photos
All photos are reviewed before being accepted. On the right hand side you will see a link to photos that are waiting to be approved. Please accept or decline these photos each time you log into MyEC. Familiarize yourself with MyEC's Photo Upload Rules. If you have any questions, please ask the administrator via private message.
Photo Upload Rules for Members (as found in the drop down menu under Photo):
-You can add up to 7 photos per day. Each photo must be your own photo. When you add a photo, please include:
Title
This is the "name" of the picture. Please make it short (usually one, two or three words is enough). It must be in English. No numbers.
Description
(Mods can accept photos without descriptions, but we want to encourage members to add descriptions, so please leave comments on photos once in a while inviting members to add a description.)
This is more information about the picture. It can answer the questions: who? where? when? what? why? how? For example: - who is in the picture?
- where is it?
- when was the picture take?
- what are they doing?
- why are they doing it?
- how do they do it?
Tags
These are like keywords to help people in searching. If you want, you can add 2 or 3 tags. Do not add more.
Mods
DO NOT approve pictures that do not follow the above guidelines.
Delete any existing pictures that do not follow the above guidelines. (You don't have to go through all of the old photos, but you can if you want.)
*Members must have permission to upload photos (do not accept photos that are obviously copied from the web, including clipart)
Note: We ask that you give 1 gentle reminder warning to new members who have uploaded a set of great photos without appropriate titles. Do not accept their photos, but send them a message explaining why and invite them to resubmit properly. Please send in a private message (you may need to add as friend).
Example Reminder:
Dear "Member name"
Thank you for uploading some great photos. Unfortunately we can't approve these photos because they do not have appropriate titles. Each title must be unique and in English. (We do not allow photos with numbers in the titles.) Please fix your titles and resubmit. Thank you for your understanding. --(sign mod name)
Photo Moderators can:
accept or decline photos
tag photos
feature photos
delete photos
delete comments on photos
flag photos
Featuring
Please feature a few of the best photos each week. Also, please leave comments on photos regularly (especially for new members who do not have an audience yet). Encourage members to tag, title, and write descriptions for their photos. Your encouragement means so much!
Participating
We encourage you to create "Photo Challenges" whenever you please! Add your own photos often. Your albums should be a good example of what other members can do with their own. Taking part in Wordless Wednesday is a great way to have fun with photos. Please write captions in the comments for all who participate.
Please watch for:
*Abusive language or content. We don't want to censor for religious or cultural views, but please delete any photos containing porn, profanity, or child abuse. Please do not delete content unless you are sure it should not be posted. Feel free to ask the administrator for a second opinion.
*Abuse in comments or comments containing spam (with email addresses)
Please delete.
*Copyright issues. At this time we will not take the time to delete all of the photos that have been posted illegally (this would take forever!). Feel free to send gentle reminders (using polite language) to those who upload photos that are obviously copied from the web. Don't assume they do not have permission to upload the photos. Some people use photos from a Creative Commons site. Also, keep in mind that many members do not understand or agree with the rules. You can send the link to the "How to Avoid Plagiarism" page. Think of yourself as a gentle guide of fair use, not a dictator. Ask questions such as "Do you have permission to use this photo?" or "Are you aware of the photo upload policy?" Please use the private inbox (not the wall or comments) to address concerns with individual members.
Photo of the Month
Towards the end of the month (around the 24th) please recommend a photo or two for "photo of the month". Send a link to the administrator via a private message. The final selection will be decided by the administrator and will be featured in the monthly newsletter.
If you have any questions, please let the administrator know via the "send message" link.
NOTE: Some members use the "Share" function of the status update to upload photos. They don't have the opportunity to add a title and description unless they choose "More Options". You can remind members of this if you send them a message:
If you add photos from the "Share" function of your status update, make sure you choose "More Options" so that you can include the Title and Description.
