Dear friends! As I have dedicated all my life to education, I can't help congratulating all students and teachers of EC with Knowlege Day that starts another academic year in my country today. I sicerely believe that the only one great victory of the USSR was victory against illiteracy. You will not find any person who can't read or write or doesn't have any education in Ukraine as well as in other post soviet countries. So, September 1, Knowlege Day, is a holiday for all population. We rate ed

"Burnt City" is a part of a very ancient civilization (date back to 3000 BC), which was completely unknown to the world since 20th century. It was one of the largest cities at the dawn of the urban era. Wikipedia says: "The reasons for the unexpected rise and fall of the Burnt City are still wrapped in mystery. Artifacts recovered from the city demonstrate a peculiar incongruity with nearby civilizations".

Pushing Yourself Into The Limits

A person is limited by what he can hold in his imagination. –William James

What are the limits of human ability? We have no idea. Few of us reach our limits. The Guinness Book of Record is an ongoing compilation of the possible. Every page describes an upper edge of human functioning. Each new edition list hundreds of prior records broken and hundreds of new ones created. What is striking is not the record themselves; it is the changing record- the continual surpassing, the pushing of the

When I look around in my country I can see many fat, obese people who resigned to healthy lifestyle or have never heard of it and who thanks to no movement and junk food gain day by day. In my opinion obesity started being worldwide problem and it is weird paradox that meanwhile in one part of our planet people are dying of starving, somewhere else they voluntarily decided to shorten their life by being obese.

As far as I am concerned obesity might even kill and it seems to me that many people un

Dear Captain,

I wrote back to Markus, the man who asked help from me before. I don't know him, but he does know me. He lived in the gerocomium which I worked. Yet when he lived there, I had already left it.

The iron woman is his daughter-in-law. Now he is taken care by her. You know what, she doesn't allow anyone except her family to approach and talk to Markus. I couldn't understand such situation until Markus told me a story. Let me make it a short story. The woman wants to sell his farmland. So

Did you notice this month's writing challenge? Every month, Tara(the admin of MyEC) will post a writing challenge for all of the learners here to practice their English writing skills. Most of the members may find it interesting or helpful while some may find it so daunting.

I'm glad that some of our members are always trying to participate in the challenge, and I can tell their English writing skills have improved so much. I've enjoyed all of their challenge blog posts, and tried to make a few

HAND PULLER RICKSHAW

Most of us know about hand puller rickshaw. It is a mode of human powered transport by which a runner draws a two - wheeled cart which seats one or two people.

Around 1880, hand puller rickshaw appeared in India, first time in Shimla. And then later introduced in Kolkata (Calcutta, India).

Though, in recent times the use of human powered rickshaw has been discouraged or outlawed in many countries due to concern for the welfare of rickshaw workers and have been replaced by cycle and auto rickshaw.

This coming 31st August 2014, we Malaysians are 57 years old. Well, actually the country is much older than that, if taking into consideration that one of the oldest rainforests (130 millions years old) is in Malaysia, but it is 57 years of independence from the British rules. In the spirit of being independent, I want to share with all of you something unique, weird and quirky about Malaysians. In fact I've written a similar subject in my previous blog; Only In Malaysia, but in this blog I want

Pollution is now one of the world's biggest problems, especially in developing countries, such as China. The economic growth may be to blame. With the rapid economic growth, China is now the second largest economy in the world, and at the same time pollution, a byproduct of the development, has accompanied the growth to come. People are now so familiar with the environmental pollution, such as air or water pollution - the sky is no longer blue; the rivers aren't clear any more.

I want to know why......

This is a site whose aim is to help us  learning English , so it is supposed that we are just for the sake of learning English and nothing more. Therefore, we are not here to make friendship , even though it can happen. So, we are not  obliged to give much  more attention to the people we talk to either their names, age, family members, job or any personal details especially if we dont like to talk about it.The problem is that many people dont appreciate that privacy we want to have.
