A root word is the basic form of a word without a prefix or suffix. Every word has or is a root word. Compound words have two roots. The root word provides the basic meaning of a word. In English, root words have origins from a variety of languages, such as Latin or French. Prefixes (parts of a word that come at the beginning) and suffixes (parts of the word that come at the end) are added to a root to change the meaning and word form. I use Apple's Keynote application to teach English to my students. Some students take lessons one to one, and others take lessons in small groups.

I present the lessons that are on an iPad via a small wifi called an "AppleTV" to HDTV screens. The ATV links to the iPad wirelessly, and to the HDTV via an HDMI cable.

I create the presentations on my Apple iMac. I use DropBox to move the lessons from My computer to the iPad. I usually create my own lessons but I also use the lessons offered

Dictionary method

There are three stages of knowing new words. If you recognise a word by reading, it is in your passive vocabulary. If you can translate the word into English, it is already in your active vocabulary. And at the third stage you are able to use it in a sentence while speaking to a foreigner.
