A quick review about tonight's study content. The first one is the demonstrative determiner. As "demonstrative" means to make something clear, it is obvious that its function is to make the following content more clear. For example, I will go shopping on the weekend. It is clear to read it in English. We all know that the function of the pronoun is to replace a repeat ed noun. The pronoun "they" in the sentence refers to "poems". But in Chinese, we usually use "poems" directly instead of "they". So the formal translation of the Chinese version is "当人们朗诵诗歌的时候,诗歌才真正活起来。"

WHY WE SLEEP
Scientists have proposed the following theories on why humans require sleep:
- Sleep may be a way of recharging the brain. The brain has a chance to shut down and repair neurons and to exercise important neuronal connections that might otherwise deteriorate due to lack of activity.
- Sleep gives the brain an opportunity to reorganise data to help find a solution to problems, process newly learned information and organise and archive memories.
- Sleep lowers a person's metabolic rate and energ

There was a famous Japanese master of Japanese martial arts. He had a lot of disciples. One day, they were separated into two groups and argued. One group went to the master and told him about the other group's faults. The other group did the same thing. Both groups asked the master which group was right. The master thundered out to them, "You only talked about the faults of others and didn't talk about your own faults." He said, "When everybody admits their own faults first, there will be no

So here is the thing: At 62, I want to start a new project – my father always said that “he who doesn’t have a project is already dead” (he was from a time in which we didn’t have to worry about choosing gender in our sentences...)
This is such a new world, isn’t it? So many things are challenged everyday and it feels like we have to literally start over every damn morning. It’s tiresome, I confess. But I’m not ready to give up just yet.
I’m from this generation – the new oldies - caught in the mi
