Delicious dishes really add flavour to holidays, or rather, no holiday is complete without enjoying the mouth-watering food. Food is part of holidays.
I'm not really a foodie, but I do cook and enjoy food, especially during the holiday season. It's said that you'll enjoy eating what you usually ate when you were a child. I entirely agree with that. I'll cook what I usually ate when I was young. One of my favorites is this dish: Lotus-root Sandwich (I'm not sure it's the proper English name for the dish) - the flavour of home. It reminds me of my grandma wheneven I have it - somehow I still can't make it as delicious as what my grandma made.
Ingredients
- lotus root
- meat (whatever you like)
- flour
- seasoning (salt, sauce, vinegar, etc)
Directions
- Slice the lotus root to make lotus-root slices
- Cut and mash the meat
- Mix the mashed meat with some seasoning to make "meat stuffing"
- Blend the flour with water to make paste
- Put the meat stuffing between two lotus-root slices
- Immerse the sandwich lotus-root slices in the paste
- Fry the paste-covered lotus-root slices until golden brown
Does it sound delicious and easy to cook? I hope so. The recipe can be modified, though. You could add some other seasoning instead of those mentioned above. You can also roast the lotus-root slices rather than fry them. Do you think you could call this dish a pie or a pasty or anything else?

Thanks for the nice comment!
Lotus roots are very tasty! We also eat fresh lotus root seeds but we don't cook them.
We make different kinds of snacks from them. We add them to different kinds of curries and also cook them with many types of vegetables. You know, once I believed that only we in the whole world knew lotus roots were edible but then on the tv I saw Japanese eating them. Now I know Chinese also eat them. This is really great.
Thank you for sharing the above recipe.
@Ehab
Then why not try to cook it yourself. Thanks!
@Kevin
Thanks for the comment. Yes, you can cook the lotus root in different ways. Try to write a blog about the lotus-root soup.

The lotus root grows in the soil of the bottom of the pond. In winter when the lotus flower disappears, people dry up the pond and dig the lotus roots out of the soil. I wonder who first found lotus roots were edible!
