dream school

A few months ago we had fun building our dream clubhouse. The writers were so creative I thought it would be fun to build our dream English school.

Are you currently attending an English school? Have you attended one in the past? Think about what you liked and what you didn't like. What would you do differently if you owned the school? What would your English school look like if you had all of the money in the world? How would it operate? This school could open in the future, when technology and travel were even more advanced than they are today. Here are some things to think about:The teachersThe lessonsThe locationThe curriculumThe hoursThe extra curricular activitiesThe subject matterThe technologyThe class sizeThe class lengthThe foodThe rulesThe class demographicsThe feeThe appearanceYour task:1. Create a post on your own MyEC blog called "Writing Challenge #12: My Dream English School" (Thank you to last month's participants for starting this submission trend! It was a great idea to have the stories on your blogs instead of in the comments.). At the end of your post write this question for readers: "Would you go to my school? Why or why not?"2. Come back to this page and provide a link to your dream school post in the comment section. (Click on the icon that looks like a chain. Insert the url from your own blog post. Let me know if you have any problems.)3. Visit other "Dream School" posts by members and answer their question: Would you go to their school? Why or why not?My Example:My dream English school would be located in New Mexico. I have never been to New Mexico, but I hear it is an inspiring place for writers. There would be fresh coffee beans in each classroom (and a place to store chocolate). The teachers would be allowed to wear jeans to school. Each class would have a maximum of six students and we would all sit on bean bag chairs near a big window. Much of the classroom work would take place outside of the classroom, in local art galleries, cafes, and parks. School would start around ten in the morning and end around two. Students would take turns bringing in food from their native countries to share for lunch and snack time. Yum! We wouldn't use many textbooks, but we would do lots of reading, writing, and sharing together. Once a week we would Skype with another English class from a different part of the world.Would you come to my school? Why or why not?--Note: I will *Feature the most popular "My Dream School" post on MyEC at the end of the challenge. Write your hearts out!

  • Suela: Thank you so much for sharing the reasons for your common errors. This is very helpful for teachers and we all get to learn more about languages!
  • Suela: Great writing! My comments are on your blog. I hope all of the writers will check out Suela's school. You will learn some important vocabulary. See the link above.
  • Tala: Yes, it's true we learn so much from our mistakes.

The first version of your first sentence used the wrong "witch". (which) In your corrected version you need "a" before quiet. (such a quiet place) . You fixed the parallel construction problem too (making them all "ing"). You could also change them to "study, focus, and relax".

Correction: Such a quiet place, which of course is far from the city, would help students study, focus, and relax.

The second sentence is almost correct. You fixed the preposition correctly (at), but you don't need "be + past participle" (be ended).

Correction: "start at 9:00 am and end at 1:00 pm".

Thanks for taking my second challenge, Tala!
  • Well, I did have a great time visiting Zahra's blog (as I always do). Please click on the link above (Get on the bus) and check it out! Don't forget your picnic basket.

    have a great time:)
  • A common theme seems to be small class sizes! I too love small classes. My favourite real life writing class had about 6 students. It was made up of a very international group. There were two sweet and very creative French sisters, an intelligent young Japanese father, and a few hilarious Korean boys. We had so much fun writing together and creating a school newspaper.

Tala: I would love to come to your school. The lunch sounds delightful! Here is a second challenge for you. Can you spot a few errors in these sentences? Try to fix them.:

"so this quiet place witch of course far from the city would help students to study, focusing and relax."

"The studying would begin in the 9:am and end in 1:pm."
  • Hi Tala, I would come to your school. I love beach, clean water, and swimming. I can exercise and learning English on the same time. Great idea.
  • Tuti: Great description. Thanks for being brave and taking the challenge. I'd go to your environmentally friendly school! I'm very excited about the library.
  • let u added me in writing challenge. Thanks
  • I'am so shy to make a post bout it.
But if i have all of money in this world, i'll build a great school.
There are many trees there.so students feel fresh by it.i will make a beautiful garden. And also make big rooms as a class and have a windows that aren't made from glass,so at least we can save our earth from global warming. Every class has 3 until 5 stUdents and the teacher must be qualified.
The school must has a library that contains international books.there are many reference there.
At all,the school must has naturally nuance. Every place should have characteristic that can give advice to Every one to save our earth.
