One of the questions that might be asked in a typical teachers employment interview, is expressed as following:
Suppose that you are a teacher and you enter your classroom which you wanna teach, then when you want to start, all the students mock and sneer you in this way that when you turn your head they turn their heads simultaneously or when you rise your hand, they do the similar action all together. In this time you advise them but they rudely ignore you and continue their behavior.
In this position what would you do?
My answer : If I was in this situation, after talking to them and to be ignored by them, I would kick out only the first row of students and continue my teaching !! : )
My reason : In fact they have gotten allied together and we should break their alliance. Prejudice and injustice are two points which plays the main role in breaking their alliance, and kicking out the first row of student, could motivate the outer students to expose the students total plan and provoke them against inner ones.
What would you do if you were in that situation ??

Dear Onee
Nice reaction, hope it works, but when you star at them and after that, 20 pairs eyes star at you, be careful about yourself not to lose your spirit. :)
Thanks for your comment, cheers
Dear Mohammad, this is a very good question for teachers.
My answer: If that the case and such students I face, and if they rudely ignore my words, it's time for me to shout out over their voices. (actually it's my secret that I'm able to do that) :D Then, significantly I change my voice to be very soft and sweet with my little smile and eyes staring at one's eyes whom I assume to be a leader. If possible, I will order him/her to sit near me. I will firmly order the others to follow afterwards by staring at their eyes, like piercing inside their heart. lol...so far it works.
My reason: When they hear a high tone which breaks the situation, mostly the heart of the students will tremble at least. Only with gentleness, they will follow me continuously. And for the next measure, I will try to be close to them, like a friend.
Thank you for sharing. Great blog! :)
Dear friends, Furug, Saba, Dara, Rhaani, Mister, and Mishaikh, here I would like to thank you all for liking my blog. May God bless you all.
Thanks for your comment dear Mister, Yes you are right, I also think it would be more effective for higher age levels :)
If I was in this situation...I would kick out the last row...because the most of hooligans sit there...they are often the mastermind of this behavior...
To answer your last question I should say that: As a matter of fact, mentioned question (by me) has been asked in many interviews at least in Iran. The interviewers want to know and see your answer and reaction respectively in encounter of that position. Now you should answer them even wrong (because this situation is so improbable) with a high self-confidence, and defense of your answer. As it can be seen in the previous comments, many solutions has been considered and discussed by dear members who many of them are teacher. So I think there are more than one answer for this question. The main significant factors which play a vital role in the interview atmosphere, at least in my opinion are: 1- you should have faith in your answer (even wrong one) and you should have ability to defense of that in order to convince the interviewers. Therefore passing or failing the interview is up to you !
Perhaps, if you say them "I immediately call the head of the institute to consider some measures in order to calm them down", they would tell you "Don't you have any ability to manage the position yourself ?, maybe the head would be absent, then what? "
Now, think about the answer and defensing, if you wanna pass in your upcoming interview (just kidding, no need to tell me your answer, only think about that) :)
Thanks for your further answer.
Thank you Sophia for your nice comment and for the time which you spent to comment on my blog. Hope you will not encounter to that situation in future as well :) I do agree with you completely, in paragraphs 1, 2, and 3. But suppose they let you start; first of all, which questions do u wanna ask them to check whether the teachers are well-prepared for the topic or not? and what do u mean by "teachers" ? do u mean other teachers of that institute or in general? and second: They do their rudely action all together, thus do you want to ask them all (riots) to go out !?
If so, then I think you would fail in the interview ;-)
Cheers
Dear Esma, thanks for your compliment and nice comment. I do agree with you for kids age level, but for high school level students, I think, when they are as much as rude that they sneer you as a teacher, certainly they wont be afraid of your threat (hard exam and low mark) which will be occurred at the end of semester (perhaps they will have enough time to make you to change your decision) and I think it will not work for mentioned moment, although I don't deny that it can be a long-term solution.
Nice blog!
If I were in that situation I would give a low mark in the test to all the class and prepare a hard exam for 'em. Of course I do that after that I make them be aware of my punishment if they don't give up that's for a hight school's student. For kids, I would ask them to exchange jokes and laugh with them because they are still kids, they don't know their interest you should treat them depending on their mind not yours. and so you can absorbe their negative energy that they wanted to use it for making you crazy. use that energy to creat a nice ambiance at the class. You may ask me, what if they repeat it each class, I would say, repeat that solution each time but in the last 5 or 10 minutes of the class, like this way they like you and show respect to you, since you're doing what they like. that methos could help with teen as well, especially when they are tired or no showing interest to study, again to not hit with them, you are creating a nice atmosphere in the class.
I wish you success in your work and life.
Yes you are right Gail, all teachers should like their students and should be friend with them (like a father for his children), I like my students and I'm friend with them. I also agree that we can show their wrong work to them with a smile or looking. In that situation, I think "smile" doesn't have good result, in fact I think managing that situation with "smile" is too ideal thinking.
Look my friend, when you enter the class and the students mock and sneer you, means that they are not familiar with your behavior and morality, they have not known you yet, thus you can not say : "I would have stood there and smile and my students would know what I was thinking".
In this situation, it seems from the style of question, that it is our first session that we wanna teach in the mentioned class, so "smile" is inefficient from my point of view. If you did that as a response to their rude work, they will get ruder and they may fall into that habit and do it again in future. It is my belief .
again I would like to thank you for your beautiful answers
