thanks Tanya for this the valuable explanation every day i learn from you many things especially vocabulary .
god bless you
hi tanya
Hi, Alhgag! I will gladly explain you the meanings of the words you mentioned.
1. Experience means:
a)practical contact and observation of facts or events
He had learned his lesson by painful experience
b) the knowledge or skill acquired by such means over time, especially that gained in a particular profession
You should have the necessary experience in health management to work here.
2. Experiment is a scientific procedure undertaken to make a discovery, test a hypothesis, or demonstrate a known fact
This laboratory carried out experiments on pigs
3. Expiring means coming to the end. Expiring darkness means that it will be light soon.
4. Variety is the quality or state of being different or diverse; the absence of uniformity or monotony
It's the variety that makes my job so enjoyable
I think that "dark variety" in wildlife documentaries may mean life of different creatures that are active at the nighttime.
5. Variation means different options of the same. In biology it means
the occurrence of an organism in more than one distinct colour or form
Have I made things clear for you? If not, ask again.
Alhgag, I recommend you to download and to use Lingvo x3 dictionary. You can always find necessary explanations with the examples there. Unfortunately, I can't email it because its volume is more than 2 GB. But I can say, it is very helpful and correct contrary to many others.
Hope, you will like the video I posted in your blog.
Have a nice day!
Dear Alhgag!Nice to hear from you as always!
Well, I often watch documentaries about wild life and history but I watch them on TV. Anyway, I'll try to find some appropriate websites. Do you want them (documentaries) to be with the Arabic subtitles?
As to my niece's friend. All I know is: his name is Mohamed Ali Enfais, he lives in Tripoli, he is about 40-42 years old, single. I also remember that he studied something in Canada for a year or so and that his family (I am not sure about him personally) raises olive trees. In fact, that is all I know about him. You see, the matter is that he hasn't been in touch not only with us but with other people for rather long and we all worry about his fate. It will be really great if you find out something about him. All we want is to know he is alive.
As to that sentence. I am sorry for not being attentive enough. Now I see, there is not one but two sentences. However, two of them together made sense that is why I proposed my option. OK, now I see, there are two different sentences. So, lets analyze them.
1. "What I want is for young people". This sentence is grammatically correct. It means that any desire of that person is directed to making young people's life better (or, maybe, teaching young people).
2. "They find it (not is!) disturbing". If I replace "is" with "it", the sentence will be correct and clear. It means that some matter or fact makes some people (or animals) feel troubling, worrying, being upset or agitate (as to animals, the last meaning is more suitable)
Have I answered to that question at last?! (Smile)
Dear friend! Watching documentaries and movies is very good for enriching your vocabulary, no doubt! However, you should learn some grammar for your English to be "more readable", so to say. You see, your vocabulary is rich enough but you badly need to know some grammar to explain your mind clearer. English grammar is not complicated, it is simple and logical but its simplicity may often result in misunderstandings if people don't know grammar. I do recommend you to pay more attention to grammar.
Here is the last moment I want to clear up. Do you want me to explain you the meanings of the words you mentioned in your last comment? I can, no problem.
Have a nice day!
Dear Alhgag! I am sincerely sorry to hear about your injury but, on the other hand, I am glad it is not serious. I believe that both in EC and in the world I am not the only one who worries about Libyan people. However, you have got a wrong idea about the Soviet Union. We have never lived in the war atmosphere here since WWII and I am not that old to remember it. The Soviet troops took part in some military actions (Vietnam, Afghanistan, Chad, Kongo, Somali, etc) but they were all out of our territory. As to Ukraine where I live there hasn't been any shot during last 66 - 68 years. Only criminals can kill somebody. But criminals exist everywhere. In August 1991 when the USSR collapsed and Ukraine was the first to proclaim its independence we thought we might have problems. But the Soviet Army dislocated on the territory of Ukraine immediately sided with the new independent Ukrainian government and no shot was made. It was so called velvet revolution and our people were just happy to avoid bloodshed. Excuse me for that historic excursus but I dislike when people think wrong about my country. I could never accept international policy of the USSR, lack of freedom inside the country (at least in 70's and early 80's), but we lived well and happily here and there wasn't any military atmosphere during my life. Contrary to Americans, we have never thought that the USA can attack us. We have always been sure that if WWIII happens, it would be the USSR that would start it. So, we lived being in peace of our minds.
As to the expression you posted, it is incorrect, no doubts, or you made a mistake while typing. You can ask any native speaker.
I have a question. My niece is friendly with one man from Libya. In EC his name is Emfase. Do you know anything about him? I know him,too and we worry about him. Does internet or cellular connection already work in Libya?
Have a nice day! I am always glad to communicate with you
Hi, Alhgag! You can't imagine how happy I am to see you again! I worried about you and the other friend of mine from Libya. Now I am really happy that you are fine. How are things in your country?
Well, as to your question. I am very sorry but I can't understand what you mean. You see, irregular and auxiliary verbs are absolutely different conceptions. They are not related at all. The auxiliary verbs are "to be", "to have", "to do". They are used as the first part of a compound or a complex predicate. They can also be the main verbs in some sentences. For example:
Auxiliary verbs:
I am waiting for you.
He has just come.
I have been living here for long.
Do you know him?
Main verbs:
I am a teacher.
I have two cats.
Think what you do.
The irregular verbs (about 250) are those that have irregular past forms like: know - knew - known. They are used as a simple predicate, the second part of a compound or the last part of a complex predicate:
I know him well enough.
I haven't known him before.
This fact has been known for many years.
All verbs, including auxiliary, have all verbal forms, i.e., the gerund, the participle and the infinitive.
He went to work despite being sick. (gerund)
Knowing him I didn't ask any questions. (participle)
I think him to be a kind person. (infinitive)
As to your example, it is incorrect. I think I've got your idea and the correct sentence is:
"What I want for young people is considered to be disturbing by them"
It will be nice if you make yourself clearer for me to understand you.
