  • Hi,Seyyed! Welcome to my group. I don't really know what you mean by "the new metods". I will tell you what I think about it.

As to listening. I think the best way to improve your listening skills is to listen to the podcasts and fictions which come together with the scripts. The technique should be the following:

    1. First, listen to it as many times as you need to understand what it is about.
    2. Read the script and translate all new words (it is better to write them out together with the translations and transcriptions; it this case you will remember them better)
    3. Listen again paying special attention to the new words.
    4. Do it until you hear each word clearly.

As to speaking. Of course, to improve this skill you should have as much spoken practice as you can. But you should speak to those who can correct you. Best of all is to do it with native speakers or those who speak fluent English. When I teach my students I use the following steps:

    1. They answer my questions.
    2. They read English texts and retell them
    3. They learn the vocabulary for some special topic and then we try to speak about that.
    4. They read English fictions and retell them (first, adapted and then original ones)
    5. They write compositions.
    6. I ask them to do oral two-way translation.
    7. I propose them any free topic I choose and they have to express their minds in that connection.
    8. They translate different articles from newspapers and magazines in a written form.

Of course, whatever my students do, I check it out and correct them. And at the same time they study grammar.

As a result, most of my students can speak fluent English in a year if they were even beginners. The only one requirement is for them not to be lazy and to do everything I say.

I am not sure I have answered to your question. If I haven't, just ask me more, OK?
  • Hi Ms Tanya,

First of all, thank you to be one of my freind. Hope you can give tips for me to improve my English language.

My grammar not so good. I do not know what should i do. Can you give me the way that i can improve my English language? To finish a simple letter i have to take long time to do it., sometime i get shamed with myself.

Could you please help me, Ms Tanya.

    Thank you.
  • Ash! I will tell you tomorrow, OK?
  • Tanya - are there more exceptions to the rule as to the use "an" before words that sound like "you" e.g. university. i would be grateful if you were kind enough to write sth abut it on a/the topic.
    kind regards.
  • Tanya - Thank you for your comment. Unforunately, I haven't read in Russian language for ages. Probably I would not understand much now.

    Kind regards,
    Ash
  • Dear friends! Yesterday I added two video lessons on my page. One of them is about prerositions, the other is devoted to the Real and Unreal Conditions. I recommend you to watch them very attentively. I have many other videos like those. If you like them, I will add more.
  • Dear Olya! First of all, I'd like to ask if you are Russian speaker. You name sounds like that. As to learning words. If you come across the word you don't know, write it out, look its translation and transcription, write everything down and then try to use this word in a few sentenses you construct yourself. It is better to use it both in a written and oral forms. If you do it for a few times, you usually remember the word or expression. The main idea is to know the exact meaning of the word or expression in your native language and how to use it in any English sentense.
    Sincerely yours,
    Tanya.
  • Hi Tanya,

They sent us 7 rules to speak in english in fastest way, for free. maybe the group can be join too, to try different techniques.
    Ok. take care bye.
  • Indah, my answer is: "You have to study grammar first". As to your vocabulary, it is not rich but enough for you to explain your mind. If you can't do it or don't feel confident, it means that you are not sure about sentense construction . Please, read my last comments to the discussion "What do you want to know about English grammar?". I am sending you that book right away.
  • Indah! Thanks for joining my group. I will try to help you. First of all you have to learn grammar. Do you know Murphy's grammar? I can email it to you if you tell me your address. I don't really like it but it is the only one I can recommend. At least, you can believe what you read. There are too poor explanations but you can always ask me any questions. Besides, if you don't mind, you can leave here any comments and I will correct your mistakes and explain them.
