I met a wonderful teacher in Brighton named James. It was funny because his parents lived in Brighton and he was staying with them. Late in the evenings he would laugh and say he had to go home to mom and dad. I loved hearing about Brighton from a "local". He told me a fabulous story about this palace. I'd love to retell it, but I think it would be more accurate if James shared the story.James attended my talk about MyEC and said he would love to join our community and volunteer in some of the groups. Okay James! Here is your official invite. Please join MyEc so that you can leave a comment describing the fun history behind this photo.

Hahaha ... I'm not kidding you, James! The palace related to the queen, prince or princess. I guess you're one of them ;) May be you will be a prince in MyEC palace ... :))
I'm so happy that the palace was looking so perfect for my first trip to Brighton! I wish I had known that you could go inside. I sat on the grass and admired it from the outside.

Tara - Thanks for the question. It seems that from the 1970's to the 1980's the palace was cursed! They were restoring the palace when, in 1975, their was an arson attack and the Music Room was damaged. It was closed for 11 years. After this they discovered that the building had structural problems and this wasn't fixed until 1992!
Also, in 1987, there was a great storm which damaged the building and they had to start lots of work all over again. The building didn't finally open to the public until the 1990's. For most of that time it was covered in scaffolding, so I didn't see the outside of the building properly until I was around 18 years old!

Dear Tara! Thank you for your answer on my message "No problem"!
James, the detail about the sea water is fascinating! You told me something interesting about your childhood and a reconstruction project related to the palace. Can you share this part of the story?
The palace is in Brighton, right in the centre of town. Anyone who visits Brighton can't miss it! It was never a presidential palace because the UK has never had a president. In fact, now the palace belongs to the city, the only Royal palace in the UK that is not owned by the royal family.
