I always have liked to be comfortable and have taken for granted having electricity and all the conveniences that this brings to my life. I have never given the much thought to. My home is a small house in the country and my nearest neighbor lives a half a mile down the road from where I live.
You would think that I am very isolated but thanks to an electrical power line , this is not so, because this power line allows me to have a telephone line, a tv , radio, my stereo equipment which I can listen to full blast without having to worry about any complaints. I also have a refrigerator and freezer which allow me to be well stocked with food. So you could say that I was well prepared for the heavy rainstorm that happened a year ago that had strong winds and lightening.
The rainstorm began late in the afternoon and continued into the night. At one point the lights suddenly went off, followed by the phone so I couldn't call anyone, as time went on the power didn’t come back. I didn't feel worried at first but then I looked out the window to see if I could see at least the lights of my nearest neighbor who lived half a mile down the road as I have said before. At the same time I noticed a small note someone had left attached to the window pane. It just had one word written on it, "Run", it said. I wondered who could have sent me this note. I didn't feel frightened, at first, quite the opposite, I felt angered that I was being threatened.
Simultaneously my curiosity was aroused to find out whom or what was threatening me, and to give whatever it was, its due, I went for my double barrel shotgun which I always kept in the closet. I locked all the doors which I never locked, shut the windows and sat down on a chair near the fireplace where I had several logs burning and settle down for what was going to be a long night.
