There is an Arabian proverb which emphasizes that who doesn't have something from the past, won't have anything from the present. One of the traditional things we have learned from our grandparents are Traditional Foods. That foods that always have special and different taste. The taste that reminds us of the story of the beloved one who are gone from a long time. Today, I will show you one of the most Omani traditional foods. This food has high calories. It contains of any type of meat, but sheep meat is better, wheat, salt and a little bit of spices of clove ground, black pepper ground and cinnamon ground. This food can be eaten as a breakfast, lunch or dinner. It depends on the person, but this dish usually prepare and serve for special occasions like wedding, Eid and Ramadan. It is known as " Harees ".
Literally, Harees is an Arabian word which mean that something have been mashed perfectly. As it is mashed, of course it is very soft and easy to eat. This mushy filling dish, can make your stomach full from a few spoons only. Moreover, this pureed food is easily digestible, especially for babies who start eating and for elderly people who have no teeth.
So, you can see how it looks from the picture. My mom and I made it today. You will notice it is covered by a yellow liquid which is known as "Samen" that made from the butter or naturally taken from the cow. It really adds more flavor to it, but personally I do not like to add it because it will look a little bit fatty.
Now, If you are planning to visit Oman, do not hesitate to call me. I will make sure to make you totally rich from this dish :P
