I just got a lesson about "Medical English for Health Professional"
*LANGUANGE SKILLS FOR NURSING*
1. How to use this recording : watch, pause to do activities, slides.
2. Goals for this session. Learn strategies for : building your vocabulary, spelling tricky words, writing in a academic style.
3. Building your vocabulary. Tools for learning languange : notebook, flashcards, flashcard ring, flashcard app.
4. Learning the meaning of new words : write down words you don't know, meaning from the context of the sentence.
5. Using new words : set a goal, write more
6. Creating a vocab list : word (part of speech), meaning, example sentence.
7. Spelling strategies : ache, ambulance, anaemia, asthma, assistance, blood pressure, caring, coroner, demantia.
8. Commonly confused words. Homophones sound the same bur are spelt differently, such as : brake/break, hear/here, right/write.
9. Writing conventions. Academic and professional writing : logical organised, formal and objective, accurate in terms of grammar and punctuation, clear and concise.
10. Using formal English. Avoid : a 'chatty' tone, slang, colloquialisme.
11. Being objective. Many assignments require you to avoid personal pronouns such as/ we and you.
12. Using passive voice. A feature that is often used with both formality and objectivity in academic writing is use of the passive voice.
13. Using cautious language. Useful expressions : appears to, seems to, tends to, may, might, possible, probably, apparently, generally, seemingly.
