ROBERTO and SANDRA
My friend Roberto is a nice guy. we have been friends since we were classmates in the elementary school and even in high school,, but after high school we both took different ways as he moved to the capital.
In our small town the opportunities to study and live were really tough. We lost touch . Last week I flew to that beautiful city, the capital, and you wouldnt believe me but i run into my buddy Roberto, it was such a big surprise and we had a small conversation, then we agreed to hang out on saturday night . we went to a coffee and spent hours just reminiscing things about our childhood . We were laughing a lot when we were talking about those crazy games and when we were having fun there in our small town.
I didnt know that my friend Roberto studied a career , he was commenting me how hard is if people are studying.
He signed up for medicine and, wow , it is a tough career, i tough.
I was enjoying my cappuccino while he was telling me his time was at the university . Roberto enrolled in medicine as i said , he was always complaining because the teachers were handing out assignments pretty much every monday then he had to hand in those papers the next friday.He was doing well as he was a top student, but he met Sandra. T he way he was talking about the girl, i noticed he liked her. Sandra liked to party . One day sandra invited Roberto to party, he accepted to join her , the problem was that Roberto fell in love with the parties , so he ended up neglecting his career .He started to skip classes , every friday he was cutting physiology. Roberto fell behind in that subject , but he is a clever fellow . He noticed that he could retake physiology .
My friend was in hot water , as he started to pull all nighters , soon he got a caught up, and he started to hit the books then he saw the results . he aced all his subjects .
I then asked him about Sandra , he told me that sandra had many problems . she was partying all the time , she was drinking , and she was always skipping her lessons. The physiology teacher withdrew her from the course . She was in problems pretty much all the time .
She even plagiarized her final then the teacher reported her to the university and she was expelled .
I didnt notice that my time was over and Roberto wanted to keep up with our conversation but i had to leave .
We are going to hang out tomorrow so ill let you know what we blabber about .

To SIGN UP FOR = to ENROLL= you are going to be taking that class
HAND OUT= your teacher is giving you a paper= he is giving you what to do as homework
HAND IN= youre giving back that paper to your teacher after you finish it
A PAPER = AN ASSIGNMENT
To SKIP= TO CUT= if you skip your class, you are not assisting to your class
To FALL BEHIND= the teacher is teaching something different everyday, so if you skip one class youre losing that info, so you are falling behind----- you are paying your internet service every month, if you dont pay one month you are falling behind.
To be IN HOT WATER= to be in problems----- if you are not studying you are in hot water , you wont pass your exams
To PULL ALL NIGHTERS= to spend the entire night studying or doing something
I always study on time , i never pull all nighters .
GET A CAUGHT UP= try really hard to be at the same level after you fall behind
TO HIT THE BOOKS= TO STUDY
To ACE= to get a high mark----- im sure ill ACE my exam because i HIT THE BOOKS
WITHDRAW=TO DROP, to be removed from a class--------- mr right deoesnt want to withdraw from the course
PLAGIARIZE= if we copy an entire book we are plagiarizing it

EARTHQUAKES

It was  a cold night, it had been raining for a few days , seas of people were lining up waiting for their turn  to help. They werent  worrying  about the rain, their adrenaline level was so high, needless to say that all the people were sad but they knew that  there were  people who really needed their help.

A rescuer lifted his fist , ALL OF A SUDDEN, , all the people who were around did the same keeping silent . Raising a hand was a sign , all the people needed to stay silent because one of the rescuers  heard  a voice or a sound under the debris . there were people trapped in that collapsed building.

On september 7th twenty seventeen a strong earthquake shook the mexican land, the magnitude  of that earthquake was 8.2 degrees on the Richter scale.leaving many houses collapsed in at least three mexican states, houses collapsed were everywhere, a huge disaster .T he epicenter was located  on the Pacific coast , although the epicenter was 650 kilometer away, the capital  was affected by the  waves of the earthquake , greatly.

Earthquakes are  A DIME   A DOZEN in this zone , so people know why they have earthquake drills , people started to practice these drills since the last destructive earthquake that place suffered in  1985, how mexicans can forget this year.

The clock was 7;19 am  it was a Thursday  September 19, 1985 , Mexico city was shook by an earthquake, our capital suffered a terrible tragedy, it change the city’s history.

The epicenter was 400  kilometer away of the capital  but it took 8 minutes to reach the city, the magnitude was 8.2 on the Richter scale and many buildings collapsed . This strong  natural disaster left more than 10,000  dead.

After this disaster  every year  people in all the mexican cities  have an earthquake drill.

32 years later on September 19  , 2017  we faced another telluric movement,  it was  7.2 degrees, but the epicenter was really close to the capital.

People were silent , they knew that  one of the rescuers  heard a sound indicating  that there was someone  alive in that spot . all the people were ready to do their best  to take that person out .

Thousands of volunteers were lining up waiting for their turn to help, more people were bringing food, water , tools , and all of them wanted to help. Many countries sent  their help such as food  water and money , they even sent their  rescue teams , WE ARE  REALLY GRATEFUL OF ALL THEIR HELP.
