The situation
There are five houses in five different colors in a row. In each house lives a person with a different nationality. The five owners drink a certain type of beverage, smoke a certain brand of cigar and keep a certain pet. No owners have the same pet, smoke the same brand of cigar, or drink the same beverage. Other facts:
- The Brit lives in the red house.
- The owner living in the center house drinks milk.
- The Spanish keeps a dog as pet.
- The Japanese smokes “Parliament”.
- The Norwegian lives in the first house.
- The owner who keeps the horse smokes “Kool”.
- The neighbor of who has a fox smokes “Chesterfield”.
- The owner who rears snails smokes “Old Gold”.
- The man who drinks orange juice smokes “Lucky Strike”.
- The green house is on the right of the ivory-coloured house.
- The owner of the yellow house smokes ”Kool”.
- The yellow house's owner drinks coffee.
- The Norwegian lives next to the blue house.
- The Ukrainian drinks tea.
- The man who smokes “Chesterfield” has a neighbor who drinks beer.
