Who is respectable? There are lots of people who are respectable in long history. Such as previous South African president Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela who suffered from 19-year-old prison life resisted racial discrimination for his subjects. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi who was a greatest Indian leader led Indians towards independence with his nonviolent resistance. Steven Jobs who created Apple brand changed the world. However, these heroes are so far from our lives. What I want to tell you my friends is there are also some people should be respectable though they are disadvantaged.
I watched a TV show yesterday. Each challenger performed a show and judges made a decision whether he or she would challenge successfully. If challenger would challenge successfully, he or she could realize his or her dream. When a boy sitting in his wheelchair came to the stage with his dad, I was totally shocked. That boy looked so distorted even it was scary. His dad told host his son was 21 and had been suffering cerebral palsy. And I was wondering what such boy who cannot keep his balance and take care of himself could do. Just when I thought, he began playing the piano with his one foot. Although the song was easy to play, it was so hard to a disabled boy. Of course he challenged successfully without doubt. When host asked about his dream, he gasped he wanted his elder sister to go to university. His dad explained that his daughter didn’t go to university because of her brother’s physical condition. She has been working for some years since she graduated from high school. She gave up her chance to go to university because her family was very impoverished and also she needed to take care of her brother. Her brother wished his sister could go to university someday. He had a feeling of guilt towards his sister. His sister said:” I love my brother. I will take care of him all the time. I am proud of him.” I was totally touched and I cried a lot. Finally the family was given a sum of money about 12000 yuan. Next challenger was a farmer living in the countryside in china. He made a living by frying chestnuts with sugar. He was not rich but he built a bridge with his savings for his villagers. He sang an internationally famous song named Nessun Dorma. If I had closed my eyes, I would have thought he was a professional singer. His dream was holding a concert in his hometown. When he was given 30000 yuan for his preparation of concert, he didn’t accept it. He said:”I would not accept it because that boy suffering cerebral palsy needs it more. I hope he will get better soon. “ And I burst into tears again. All judges and audience stood up to show their respect to him. At last, the boy was given 42000 yuan. And the farmer’s future concert would be prepared by the help of TV show.
It was a happy ending. Though they are disadvantaged, they are respectable. This is the best TV show I have ever watched. It tells me heroes are around us and please open our eyes and don’t judge people by their appearance.
