  • Dear Alhagag! I am so glad to see you here again! My granddaughter will turn 1 in about a week. So, I am busy with all those arrangements. It is so nice to arrange parties! I am happy that she, my son in law and I celebrate our birthdays the same month! We are all "Decembrists"! Ha-ha! You can find the meaning of "Decembrists" in Wikipedia. Have a nice day! I am always ready to answer your questions.

  • dear, Tanya i'm so glad to get back to EC   the EC have missed you and me too for too long time don't worry about your delaying i 'm patient i hope  to solve all your problems

as to your answering is extremely clear

    take care

  • Hi, Encantadora! Welcome to my group! Feel free asking me any questions.

  • Dear Alhagag! I am so sorry for not entering EC for so long and not seeing your questions! I had some family problems, not to say about my work I have to do. Hope, we are still friends and it is not late to answer your queston .

Well, Your question is a great surprise for me. Ha-ha! You ask me about  MY NATIVE LANGUAGES! Wow! Why? I think you know what you have asked about. Those words mean the names of noun cases in Russian, Ukrainian and some other Slavic languages. Do you really mean that? OK, I think, you do.

So, in our languages, the noun cases  define the appropriate relations between words (nouns, pronouns, adjectives). If one uses those parts of speech in incorrect cases, any sentece will be sensless. If you want me to compare Slavic languages with English, I would say that the word order and some prepositions play the same role in the latter. Sure, I can give you some examples.

    1. The Nominative case is a case of a subject:

    My name is Tanya.

    I am a teaher.

    2. The Genetive case means that something (or somebody)  belongs or is a part of something (or somebody):

Here is a son of my sister.

We can meet on the corner of the street.

    3. The Dative case means that some action is directed toward some place or object:

Write me to my new address.

Bring your friend to our place.

    4. The Accusative Case may mean:

    a) that an action is done by another person ( by an object):

The letter was brought by the mailman. (He brought the letter)

    b) that both a subject and an object take part in an action:

I like to draw with a pencil. (Both a pencil and I do it).

Did you mean that? If no, please, make yourself clear.

    Have a nice day!

  • Dear Scarlett! I am really sorry for not answering earlier but I had too much work to do. However, I hope it is never late to learn.

So, both will and would are modal verbs. They express desire. Will is the present form while would is the past one. But it is not so easy when we mean modals. Let me explain.

WILL is mostly used in the Future tenses. It expresses our desire, promise, proposition to do something. For example:

I will call you tomorrow (promise).

I will get you some drink (proposition).

I will be there (desire + promise).

Besides, we use "will" in requests if we know that a person can fulfil them:

Will you open the door, please?

Will you pass me the bread, please?

WOULD is used as the past form of WILL in the Future in the Past Tenses.

He said he would come the next day (it was somewhen in the past).

Besides, WOULD is also used as an independent modal verb. It means:

    1. Regular action in the past:

On my vacation I would stay in bed late (it means, that it was so only during that period, i.e., that I usually get up early).

    2. In the negative form it may mean that some machine or mechanism doesn't work:

    The lift wouldn't work today.

Besides, WOULD is also used in The Subjunctive and Conditional Moods, but it is another question. If you give me some examples, I will exopain.

SINCE and AS are absolutely different. Please, give me some examples. I don't know what you mean.

As to your last question, it is very easy.

Such sentences are called "Tag ( or alternative) questions".

There are two types of such questions.

    1. If there is no negation in the main clause, it should be in the subordinate clause:

    He lives here, doesn't he?

You are attending driving courses, aren't you?

    2. Just vice-versa:

He doesn't live here, does he?

You are not attendind any courses now, are you?

Is it all clear? If not, you may ask me other questions.

     Have a nice day!

  • Dear friends! I am back but I can't answer all your questions at once. I have been out of here for rather long and have a lot of questions to be answered. So, I ask you not to be offended. I will answer all in time.

First of all, I'd like to welcome all new members. Somebody asked me how this group works. Well, it is easy. You ask me your questions and I answer them when I have got some free time. That's all. There are no obligations in EC.

Well, Biplab, what book do you mean? Is it a book of idioms or any other? I'll be glad to send you any book I have but your address is not clear. Will you rewrite it using "at" instead of @, please?

Dear Learner! I am still alive! But I am quite busy with my work and my family.

Dear Dinga! Your English is quite good and understandable. You don't have to worry about that. Any English speaker will understand  what you mean.

Dear Curious Student! Please, ask me your questions in my group "What do you want to know about English grammar?".

Practicing English

Everybody has their own methods to learn English. For the first time, I learn from songs. It is easier for me, cos it is a fun way. I learn vocabularies, grammar and idioms... and also pronounciation. Books gives me a lot of knowledge. The most difficult for me to learn is speaking cos we must have a partner to practice. We can't do it alone. I am a housewife with 3 children, and 2 of them are kids, really so hard to find partner to practice cos of my bussiness taking care of them. My husband…
