  • Hi, Dasha! I can't recommend you Davidova or any other Russians for I use audio recorded by natives only. What I can recommend is listening to podcasts. They are of different level. Please, read what I said on the top of this page. There are some links. As to audio books. They are useful, no doubt. But you should have them together with the text. You should read level 6 or originals. Do you know Englishtips.org? You can find a lot of audio fictions of different levels there. Besides, I will try to find one more link for you. That is the records of the American radio together with scripts
  • Hi, Dinh! In that sentence "being" is a gerund. It means "... names because it is the second day of school"
  • Dear Syed! I don't understand the first sentence clearly but I think you mean the following:

    Dear Mr. Nasr!

I hope you are doing well!
This email concerns my contact_ detail file that I have to upgrade. Would you mind providing me with the details such as a person's name, designation (do you mean position?), email Id, cellular phone # and his/her location (address ?).

    Thank you!

    Sincerely,

    (your signature and name)

I am also unsure what you mean by designation. It is often used to define the information for identification of a person but it can also mean a position.
  • Dear Tanya,
Hope you are always in good condition.

Your answer to Mahmoud makes me "aha moments". Because I have same problem with him. I have taken many courses and studied English long time but my English is still bad and can't speak fluently. You said that we should have one teacher so that we focus on his/her teaching. Perhaps it caused my problem. You know when I attended a course i didnt finish or complete it. I only took one or two level and moved to other course since I bored. It happened many times. Likewise English book, I have many kind of English books. I just bought and bought but havent read its. I confused with all the books, which one should I read first. If I read, as usual I just read it a little or just look a glance. Sometimes I want to throw up when I see all these stuff and have feeling desperate with this condition ( is it to much, isnt it :). Maybe the less lessons/knowledge that I took from many different sources makes me as you said have "a mass" in my brain particularly in English. It will be good if I put away some books and only keep a few, dont I ?

The other problem is I shy to speak English. It suit with your explanation (the problem no 3). I have heard the solution to read louder but I rarely practice it. Now after reading your suggestion I more sure and convince my self to do it a lot.
Thank you very much Tanya for your valuable explanation and suggestion that makes me understand and have clues what is my problems.

That its from me Tanya and sorry my vocab and my grammar are still poor. If you dont mind and have time could you please correct my writing.
    Thanks a lot in advance.

Success for you and have a great day.
  • Ist, YOU ARE RIGHT, NO DOUBT!
  • Dear Rose! I sure remember you. Your questionn is rather comlicated and I don't feel like typing so much today. So, let me answer tommorow, OK?
  • trust yourself and whatever you feel is right to do is right and it will make you feel so different from others... but that doesnt meant the other peoploe are wrong ..it shows that you are different from them in either a good way or a bad way:)
  • hi Tanya

so what do u think ?
    thank u

  • Dear Mahmoud! In my opinion, it is always better to learn any subject, especially language, with one teacher. All teachers teach differently and if a student often changes teachers, he has a mass in his brains instead of the clear logical system. If you have attended many courses and can't speak yet, there may be a few reasons:

    1. You are not sure in grammar
    2. You don't have spoken practice
    3. You can't overstep so called "speaking barrier", that is fear to pronounce allian sounds. This is a psycological problem and it may exist without your knowing about it.

I haven't read much of your writting but in this comment of yours there is only one mistake. It means that your grammar is not bad. So, it is not a reason. You said you are a little shy. So, I can conclude that the true problem is #3. I will give you an advice that may sound crazy but it always works, trust me! To begin with, you should read any English text loudly, especially if it is your text. Then, you should speak loudly to yourself. It is better to think up some situation and speak to your imaginary interlocutor in two persons, so to say. You should do it until you feel confident. You should certanly do such exersises when you are alone and nobody can hear you. Have you ever tried this method? Believe me, it will work out if you try
  • Hi, Levis! I am answering as I promised yesterday. Both expressions have the same meaning. The first one is an active form while the second is a passive form. To be subject(ed) to something means to be affected by it or to be likely to be affected by it. Here are a few examples:

Our life is subject to the laws of nature.

All property is subject to taxation.

He was subjected to a cruel and inhuman treatment.

As you see, we use them exactly like other active and passive forms

Practicing English

Everybody has their own methods to learn English. For the first time, I learn from songs. It is easier for me, cos it is a fun way. I learn vocabularies, grammar and idioms... and also pronounciation. Books gives me a lot of knowledge. The most difficult for me to learn is speaking cos we must have a partner to practice. We can't do it alone. I am a housewife with 3 children, and 2 of them are kids, really so hard to find partner to practice cos of my bussiness taking care of them. My husband…
