"The Alchemist " Chapter2 Part 9

Part 9 Chapter 2"Why do they make things so complicated?" he asked the Englishman one night. The boy had noticed that the Englishman was irritable, and missed his books."So that those who have the responsibility for understanding can understand," he said. "Imagine if everyone went around transforming lead into gold. Gold would lose its value."It's only those who are persistent, and willing to study things deeply, who achieve the Master Work. That's why I'm here in the middle of the desert. I'm seeking a true alchemist who will help me to decipher the codes.""When were these books written?" the boy asked."Many centuries ago.""They didn't have the printing press in those days," the boy argued. "There was no way for everybody to know about alchemy. Why did they use such strange language, with so many drawings?"The Englishman didn't answer him directly. He said that for the past few days he had been paying attention to how the caravan operated, but that he hadn't learned anything new. The only thing he had noticed was that talk of war was becoming more and more frequent

  • Do you think that Gold would lose its value if everyone went around transforming lead into gold?

I think that Gold isn't valuable because of its rarity. Maybe it's one of its feature
that can cause its value. But what is the real reason is its shine. If it would be available
all of the world easily, I think it was still the best metal Because of its natural value.
    • If rarity was a criteria then if you think about universe everything was valuable Existence, Being alive , being human ...

The value of all the things is related to the value of thinking of ours about that .

This water was indeed a different
thing from ordinary nourishment. Its sweetness was born of the walk
under the stars, the song of the pulley, the effort of my arms. It was
good for the heart, like a present. When I was a little boy, the lights
of the Christmas tree, the music of the Midnight Mass, the tenderness
of smiling faces, used to make up, so, the radiance of the gifts I
      received.

"The men where you live," said the little prince, "raise five thousand
roses in the same garden-- and they do not find in it what they are
      looking for."

"They do not find it," I replied.

"And yet what they are looking for could be found in one single rose, or
      in a little water."

"Yes, that is true," I said.

      And the little prince added:

"But the eyes are blind. One must look with the heart..."

I had drunk the water. I breathed easily. At sunrise the sand is the
color of honey. And that honey color was making me happy, too. What
brought me, then, this sense of grief?

    • Everything in the world is valuable in my idea, But I think rarity Can't be as a criteria.
Diamond is always beautiful, even in a palace full of diamonds.
Maybe our thinking is important , But something are valuable naturally and every one can confess their value.
Perhaps the degree of value is sightly in here, For example a person can be valuable for one, But S/he isn't for other one, or a book may be interesting for some people and it wasn't good in other person's idea.
But I think beauty is always valuable...
Maybe for one is more and for the other one is less.
