HYPHEN (Dash)

 

Study the following sentences:

  • There is now computer-controlled plastic surgery.
  • Life is a never-ending circuit.

--------------------------------------------------------------

 

The hyphen brings two or more words together into a single compound word. It is mostly used:

 

1. To separate the parts of many compound words.

Brother -in -law                              go-between

 

2. To join two or more words used as a single adjective modifier before a noun.

First-class service                           Bluish-gray eyes
