After a time, Fletcher Gull dragged himself into the sky and faced a brand-new
group of students, eager for their first lesson.
"To begin with " he said heavily, "you've got to understand that a seagull is an
unlimited idea of freedom, an image of the Great Gull, and your whole body, from
wingtip to wingtip, is nothing more than your thought itself."
The young gulls looked at him quizzically. Hey, man, they thought, this doesn't
sound like a rule for a loop.
Fletcher sighed and started over. "Hm. Ah... very well," he said, and eyed them
critically. "Let's begin with Level Flight." And saying that, he understood all at once
that his friend had quite honestly been no more divine than Fletcher himself.
No limits, Jonathan? he thought. Well, then, the time's not distant when I'm going to
appear out of thin air on your beach, and show you a thing or two about flying!
And though he tried to look properly severe for his students, Fletcher Seagull
suddenly saw them all as they really were, just for a moment, and he more than
liked, he loved what he saw. No limits, Jonathan? He thought, and he smiled. His
race to learn had begun.

Hi....
1- Yes I did. But most of the time I listened to it's mp3..The storyteller has a very soothing voice and the background music it's like you were being hypnotized into the world of seagulls..splash of the seashores and the sounds of the birds, very pleasant to the ears.
2- Yes.
3 - What really interest me in this story is the audio part. I really like the voice. I learned so much about pronouncing the words.
When it comes to it's moral lesson... is the idea that you can become what you think and what you believe but only after of untiring persistence, effort and sacrifice. No sweat, no glory.
And also the story teaches us that searching and having a purpose in life is the turning point of our life.
4 - Uhm, I think for me. We should be aware in some ideas of the story. Yes individuality and uniqueness are important in our self being but also we should be balance ourselves to the social order in which includes our social values. Like the family in which Jonathan Seagulls belongs..His father isn't wrong at all in giving him advice that while learning to fly is very noble to do, he shouldn't forget his basic needs which is to eat. We shouldn't misinterpret the story that it's OK to break the rules of the society (father's leadership, the flock leadership) as long as we do our "own thing" for our own sake. The story also (almost) completely disregard the laws that exist in his society, in which when we apply in real life, it's very dangerous. It's like no boundaries, as long as you can satisfied your own purpose, your own satisfaction and your self worth. Our social values is not perfect but at least we have something that will guide us.
Sometimes in pursuit of our own individuality at any expense, we forget what is more important in our life......Being outcast Jonathan became almost perfect. He realized all his dreams. But while he was an outcast, what would have happened to his family? His father, his mother and his other loved ones? Didn't he feel himself loneliness and solitariness?
But of course, I still like the story because it teaches us persistence and the search for our purpose in life. The idea of..you can become what you think and believe is very prominent throughout the story. It serves as an inspiration for me.
..... Thank you Skoon and Sahar and Darius!....Until the next story.
Hi Dear Mayumee!
I always liked your opinions about stories.
Thank you so much for sharing it with us.
Good idea dear Skoon!
We can have that discussion here.
Let me start it with some questions:
1-Did you read all of chapters?
2-Did you like the story?
3-What was interesting about this story for you?
4-If there are some new things from this story in your idea, we will be so glad to know it.
Now, let me answer those questions too.
1-Yes, I did.
2-Yes I liked it very much.
3-It was the first time that I’ve read a book in English without any background. I must Thank you, Darius, so much because of your good selection, And also because of the time that you passed for writing it here.
The domain of new words increased during following the story and it was a nice advantage about me, because I could use some of those words. And I’m sure that other words will be useful for me soon.
Waiting for new chapters every day was a good experience. It was just like having an aim. It helped me to have valuable times here, so that it had a good effect on the other of my activities during the day.
4- Teaching is the other outstanding subject about this story in my opinion. For achieving our goals, we need to have a good teacher who knows the ways well.
That teacher can be every person or even every sign.WOW. It is my pleasure to be the first one answering these questions.
1- Yes I did. And I feel merry because I finally finished a book in English :).
2- Yes I did. It is full of unlimited imagination. ;)
3- Talking about freedom and how to be free. I liked the idea of having no obstacles in life that can stop our freedom.
4- umm, let me say that I expected this end ! :->
Finally?!! And just ONE book?! Oh!! Thank God!
The first steps are always the most difficult. Now, we can start the next one easily :)
Yes, freedom was the main subject in my idea too.
You expected?!
How clever!
And therefore, I’m sure that you can be a good writer. Please try it.
Well, I have read few books in Arabic not in English. I had started to read many, but I had not finished any. My excuse was "I don't like reading".
These days, I am reading a book called "A dairy of a wimpy kid" by Jeff Kinney. It is a wonderful one has some fun. It makes me laugh aloud. I didn't finish it yet, but I am about to. But since I had some exams last days, I could not complete it. Now, I start loving reading. Thank you all. A special thank for Darius. He was always here to overcome this bad habit. I won't forget your help Darius, never ever. I am eager to start a new story with you. I wonder what it will talk about!
A writer! Aha! I had not tried to write an imagining story like this one even I have a so wide imaginative mind. I had written one story about my niece Elaf. It was real, but I mixed it with some imaginary thoughts and attached some photos for Elaf too. It was my first story and it was in English. Miss. Tara has liked it. I can give you the link of that story if you are interested. But I didn't write any other story, later. I may will try to write a novel in future. Why not! Thanks Sahar for paying my attention for this idea of writing.
Skoon!!
Are you a writer?!
A real writer?!
Nice!!
I’m so glad that we have a real writer here :)
Yes! Please give us its link. I like to read it certainly.
I’m waiting for it impatiently.
(What does Elaf mean?)
